Jade Benning, a professional chef, was working her way to owning her own restaurant before she was killed. Her friends and family remember her as someone who brought people together. "No matter who you were, Jade accepted you," her father told @nmoralestv. #48Hours
About an hour after she last saw her friend, Jade Benning, Nijaiha Jackson received an alarming phone call from Jade. Nijaiha says Jade was accusing her date, Blaise Taylor, of putting something in her drink. The call lasted a little more than 6 minutes. Nijaiha says Jade’s voice faded at the end, and then the call was disconnected. Minutes later, Blaise was on the phone with 911. Blaise and Nijaiha each followed the ambulance to the hospital, where she was eventually pronounced dead. Blaise denies putting anything in Jade’s drink. #48Hours
On the night of February 25, 2023, Nijaiha Jackson says she received a roughly 6-minute call from her best friend, Jade Benning, during which she said she heard Jade accuse her date Blaise of putting something in her drink.
Despite expressing their concerns about Blaise to police, Jade’s apartment had yet to be sealed off as a potential crime scene. Other than this call, which was not recorded, there was no proof at that time, that Blaise harmed Jade. Blaise denies any involvement in Jade’s death.
So, just one day after Jade was admitted to the hospital, Nijaiha and three friends decided to investigate on their own. #48Hours
Investigators have confirmed Ted Bundy was responsible for the murder of 17-year-old Melissa Ann Smith in 1974, a death that had long been listed as a cold case in Summit County, Utah. Smith is one of at least 30 women and girls killed by Bundy in multiple states in the 1970s, and many more escaped or survived with injuries.
Hear more about how Karen Chandler, Kathy Kleiner, and Cheryl Thomas helped bring justice to some of the families of victims of one of America's most prolific serial killers in 48 Hours' "Surviving Ted Bundy" on Paramount+ or YouTube. (1/2)
