Quote from a process engineer: @altaratech "is like having a team of 10 more engineers across all functions next to me running ideas, simulations, and analyses in parallel." Proud to see Altara empowering teams like Polar to turn decades of deep expertise into accelerating innovation and breakthroughs. Read more below 👇
In just two weeks, @altaratech helped a semiconductor materials provider increase yield from 80% to 94% on a capacity-constrained production line. To meet surging semiconductor demand, Polar Performance Materials needed to rapidly scale production of its ultra-high-purity alumina without compromising quality. By combining more than a decade of process knowledge with Altara’s AI platform, Polar was able to translate its accumulated materials and manufacturing expertise into higher yield, greater productive capacity, faster problem solving, and substantially higher responsiveness to customer needs. Key outcomes included: - 14-percentage-point yield increase in 2 weeks - 1,000+ hours saved across R&D, manufacturing, quality, and engineering - 50% reduction in innovation time-to-market Christopher, Process Engineer at Polar, used Altara to generate data-backed hypotheses in minutes, pressure-test promising ideas, and validate the strongest ones on the plant floor. He described using Altara as “having a team of 10 more engineers across all functions next to me running ideas, simulations, and analyses in parallel.” And this was just one project within a broader deployment across Polar’s R&D, quality, manufacturing, and process engineering teams. As Polar CEO Michael Edelman puts it: "With Altara as part of the team, our pace of innovation is faster than it’s ever been." We're excited to continue driving outcomes like these for our customers across the semiconductor, advanced materials, and battery industries. ↓ Read the full case study below.

“The answer to a scientific breakthrough is rarely found in one place. One of the biggest bottlenecks is the fragmentation of data and context across experiments, simulations, images, and production systems.” - @catherinehyeo, co-founder of @altaratech Watch the talks from last month's AI for Science Symposium on @GreylockVC's youtube channel, linked in the comments!

Where agents run affects which customers @altaratech can serve. No sandbox provider met every customer's security and cloud requirements, so sticking with one would rule out some customers. Rebuilding our software around each new option would create what @lukgpt calls “infinite churn”: engineering time spent reworking architecture instead of improving the product. So we built one interface for several providers. Each provider still needs an adapter, but the rest of Altara uses the same contract. I’m hiring Forward Deployed Engineers to build directly alongside me at @altaratech. A few things that could make you a great fit: 1. You crave proximity to real-world, customer impact. You're willing to jump on a plane, step onto factory floors, and work alongside scientists to turn physical bottlenecks into scalable software. 2. You plan to start a generational company someday and want to be on the frontlines of a fast-growing startup to learn how to do it. 3. Bonus points if you have firsthand experience in a lab or semiconductor fab. We are reinventing how scientists and engineers work at the frontier of energy, materials, and compute. You'll help shape what Altara builds, how we win, and what this company becomes. If this is intriguing to you, apply below.

For 3 months, we needed an engineer badly. But we didn't hire a single one. We had just raised our $7M seed and needed to expand. Our investors supported setting a high bar, but they were starting to worry about our hiring pace. That pressure didn’t change our number one hiring principle: never compromise on our talent bar. For a team our size, every hire shapes both product AND culture. We look for high-agency engineers with strong technical fundamentals and product judgment who can decide what matters and work directly with scientists to bring their ideas to life. Three months later, we found an engineer who met our bar. The wait was worth it. We’re hiring across ML, infrastructure, and forward-deployed engineering roles at @altaratech. If you want to help scale scientific intelligence, apply below.

We brought 100+ people together to talk about AI for science 🗣️ When science moves faster, the effects compound. Consider the hardware loop: better semiconductors enable more powerful computing infrastructure, which trains higher-capacity AI models, which in turn help engineers architect next-generation chips. Yet today, R&D and manufacturing teams still have to pull data from siloed repositories, legacy databases, and lab notebooks to baseline their next experiment. Altara brings all that context together in a single source of truth, so researchers can spend less time reconstructing past experiments and more time running new ones. There are still so many other ways AI can accelerate scientific discovery, and we want more people exploring them. Realizing this future requires a collaborative space to exchange ideas and test new paradigms. To build this community, we're kicking off a reading group to explore these ideas together - come join us! (Link below)

I woke up at 3 am to watch a rocket launch outside mission control when I was working at @SpaceX The energy was off the charts, way better than any college football game. It was incredible to see firsthand what physical world innovation looks like at scale and was one of my inspirations for starting @altaratech, building AI tools for R&D and manufacturing. We're helping more science and engineering teams compress the gap between “that sounds impossible” and “we built it”

Everyone give a warm welcome to @evatuecke, the best co-founder I could ask for 🎉 Incredibly grateful to be building @altaratech with her
Hi, I’m Eva! 👋 time for a reintroduction I co-founded @altaratech with @catherinehyeo. We’re building AI for the physical sciences and raised $7M from Greylock to go after some of the hardest challenges in the semiconductor, advanced materials, and battery industries. some things about me: > started my research career at 12 (classic fruit flies research) > later worked on particle physics research at Fermilab on a dark matter search & did LLM research at IBM > software at @SpaceX (starlink) and @clay_gtm (got to see the early days) > grew up amongst the corn (Midwest kid) > once threw a pumpkin 780ft (family participation in Punkin Chunkin) 🎃 > love hiking and snowboarding 🏂 > just hit one year in SF! I thought it would be good to introduce myself since I’m planning to share more about what we’re learning and doing at Altara. I’d love to meet others doing cool things in AI for science and the physical world 👩‍🔬💻

Last Thursday, we hosted 100+ researchers and engineers at our AI for Science Symposium. The highlight was hearing from startups at the frontier of this space, across both the physical and life sciences: > @chaidiscovery - computer-aided design for molecules and drug discovery > @medra_ai - autonomous robotics system for life sciences > @LatchBio - agents and benchmarks for biology > @onepot_ai - automated small-molecule synthesis > @altaratech - AI for physical sciences R&D + manufacturing Together, these teams showed how compounding AI capabilities will drastically accelerate scientific discovery and innovation. We are still extremely early in this problem space, with an immense amount of tech left to build. Huge thank you to @ddeming_, @SaiVinayak15, @fluorane, @Mattmcpartlon1, and @kenbwork for sharing more about what you’re building and thinking about. Special thanks to @_shreya_s and the @GreylockVC team for co-hosting this event, and to everyone who joined us. We're looking forward to the next one! 🚀

I slept on @evatuecke’s couch for 7 days to see if we should start a company together. We spent the entire week talking to customers, prototyping, and coding. Then we kept working together after that co-founder trial. A few months later @altaratech was born... and this week marks a year since we both moved to SF to start this company!

happy national intern day to Altara's engineering interns! one of our favorite things about interns is they haven’t yet internalized which problems are “supposed” to be too hard and learn absurdly fast shoutout to @justinhouu @lukgpt for bringing a ton of curiosity, shipping great work, and ensuring no one on the eng team gets too comfortable during chess matches...
