The Hubble telescope looked out into what we thought was an empty patch of space and showed us how little we know about the universe, revealing tens of thousands of previously unknown galaxies.
Astronomers on Earth had long gazed into the skies, but their view was obscured as light from the universe was disrupted by our planet's atmosphere.
The Hubble Space Telescope was launched into orbit in 1990 to overcome the problem and offer a clear view of the stars.
