Getting things going.
BitDevs is a space for asking questions, exchanging ideas, and learning alongside others who share your curiosity.
These discussion-led meetups bring together developers, designers, researchers, writers, students, and people from many other backgrounds.
Participants examine new proposals, challenge assumptions, share different perspectives, and learn from one another. You don’t need to be technical or have all the answers to take part.
Over time, these conversations can lead to deeper knowledge, new collaborations, research, projects, and contributions across the Bitcoin ecosystem.
Our latest article explains what happens at a BitDevs meetup, why these communities matter, and how you can get involved.

We’re excited to announce the Q2, 2026 Btrust Developer Grant recipients. 🚀
Seven Bitcoin open-source developers were awarded grants last quarter, including three starter grant recipients and four long-term open-source cohort members.
This cohort continues our mission to decentralize Bitcoin open-source development by supporting talented contributors from the Global Majority.
Their work spans wallet infrastructure, @bitcoincoreorg testing, developer tools, privacy-preserving payments, peer-to-peer exchange infrastructure, cryptography, and user-facing bitcoin applications.
The quarter also marked an important first for us: for the first time, we supported a grantee working on peer-to-peer exchange infrastructure.
Learn more about the Q2 recipients and what they’re working on here:
Time to start gathering the Bitcoin Devs in Cape Town.
We strongly support Luno's submission against the proposed draft Capital Flow Management Regulations.
Cryptocurrency represents private property — individuals' voluntary holdings of digital assets that they have lawfully acquired.
These rules risk imposing unnecessary friction on everyday South Africans, stifling innovation, and driving activity offshore — all while the ageing exchange control framework desperately needs modernisation, not patchwork expansion via proclamation.
Crypto users are not criminals by default. Sound regulation should focus on clear AML/CFT rules without confiscatory overreach that treats citizens' property as state-controlled capital.
We urge @Treasury_RSA and the @SAReserveBank to heed Luno's concerns and prioritise a framework that respects property rights, encourages local fintech growth, and classifies onshore crypto holdings appropriately.
Property rights are human rights — hands off private digital assets.
