2025 was a defining year for Btrust. After several years of experimentation and learning alongside communities, this year marked the beginning of a more structured phase focused on strengthening the systems that support Bitcoin open‑source developers across the Global Majority. Here’s a look at what we built and learnt throughout the year: teapawt.net/i/status/2042276615846… 🧵

Ever wondered where Bitcoin’s technical conversations happen beyond GitHub? For many builders, the answer is their local BitDevs meetup. Each month, BitDevs communities around the world come together to explore the latest in Bitcoin development, ask questions and exchange ideas. Whether you write code every day or are just starting to explore how Bitcoin works, you’re welcome to join. Passing tests is useful evidence, not a guarantee that a change is safe to merge. Tests check specific behaviors under specific conditions, so they can miss unexpected inputs, flawed assumptions, or interactions with their parts of the codebase. Code review helps investigate these gaps. Reviewers examine whether a patch solves the underlying problem, what else it might affect, and whether the tests would catch an incorrect implementation. In Bitcoin development, these questions are part of protecting the software people rely on.

Librería de Satoshi is now ISMOS 🎉 Five years teaching  Technical Bitcoin in Spanish taught us this: language shouldn’t decide who gets to learn, and building Bitcoin well starts with its foundations. A new name for a bigger mission. Cryptography, math, software engineering, AI and critical thinking, in more languages and more countries, all built on the foundations Bitcoin taught us.

We’re incredibly proud of what the team at Librería de Satoshi has built, and excited for its next chapter as ISMOS. Their work aligns closely with our mission to support developers in the Global Majority and create pathways into Bitcoin and open source. We’re happy to continue supporting the team as they expand access to technical education and mentorship. Check out ISMOS: ismos.xyz Are you a teacher or community leader in Bitcoin open source? A developer’s journey into Bitcoin open source often starts with curiosity, a welcoming community, and a willingness to keep learning. In our latest grantee spotlight, @AnshSharma54105 shares how @bitshala_org, @summerofbitcoin, and @ChaincodeLabs’ BOSS program shaped his path to working on @braidpool. His work supports the crucial goal of decentralizing bitcoin mining ⛏️ and reducing reliance on a small number of pool operators. Along the way, he shares lessons from his journey for anyone looking to get started in Bitcoin open source. Ansh is one of the first developers we’ve supported through the recent expansion of Btrust’s long-term developer grants across the Global Majority. Learn more about Ansh’s journey below 👇

FROM THE VERY FIRST EDITION TO OUR MILESTONE FIFTH: Btrust HAS BEEN PART OF THE JOURNEY. Some partnerships are built over time. Others begin with a shared belief in a vision and grow stronger with every step. Btrust @btrustteam has supported Africa Bitcoin Conference since its inception, making ABC2026 its fifth consecutive edition as a sponsor. That kind of consistency matters. It means standing behind a platform that brings together African Bitcoin builders, developers, educators, entrepreneurs and community leaders to exchange ideas, build connections and strengthen the ecosystem. As we take ABC to Blantyre, Malawi, for our milestone fifth edition, we’re proud to recognise a partner that has been with us from day one. Btrust, thank you for believing in this vision from the beginning and continuing to support the people building Africa’s Bitcoin future. Rust for Bitcoin 2.0: From Learning to Contribution ⚡ Several weeks of technical sessions, two weeks of capstone development and open-source contributions wave. One Demo Day. And 22 merged pull requests. Delivered in partnership with @btrustteam, Rust for Bitcoin 2.0 equipped developers with practical experience in Bitcoin development, from transaction construction and HD wallets to Bitcoin Core, Rust libraries, and Lightning Network workflows. The Results Participants have recorded 22 merged PRs, with several more open, across Bitcoin related projects including BDK, rust-payjoin, Floresta, rust-miniscript, rust-bitcoin, Bitcoin Core, and Lightning related repositories. Capstone and Demo Day The two week capstone challenged participants to apply their skills, move from concepts to implementation, and develop projects using what they had learned. Demo Day brought this work into focus, giving participants the opportunity to showcase their projects and demonstrate their progress. Many thanks to @btrustteam for their continued support in growing a strong pipeline of Bitcoin developers and open-source contributors, advancing the mission to decentralize Bitcoin development across Africa and the global ecosystem. Congratulations to all participants, and special thanks to our tutors and mentors, @200OKDeveloper, @0xGideonBature, @Akshola00, @damola21mm, and @Johnsdanlami, for making this journey possible. The learning continues through building. The contributions continue through open source. #TheBuidlGrid #BitcoinDevelopment #RustforBitcoin

Bitcoin’s code is open to everyone, but access to the code is not the same as an opportunity to contribute. Technical education, mentorship, supportive communities, and the time and funding to keep building all shape who can participate, and sustain their work. In our latest article, we explore why decentralizing Bitcoin development takes more than geographic diversity, and how Btrust supports pathways for more people, experiences, and perspectives to help shape the technology. Part of the journey is the end. ⚡ This Tuesday, Rust for Bitcoin 2.0 reaches its final milestone: Demo Day. After weeks of intensive learning, hands on development, code reviews, and mentorship, participants will showcase the Bitcoin projects they’ve built and the skills they’ve developed throughout the program. In partnership with @btrustteam, Rust for Bitcoin 2.0 bridges the gap between learning Rust and contributing to Bitcoin’s open source ecosystem, preparing developers to move beyond theory, engage with real codebases, and become active contributors to Bitcoin’s future. Now, it’s time to put the work on display. Real work start after the showcase. #TheBuidlGrid #RustForBitcoin
