As I sign off, I want to give DCIDS enthusiasts a little inside dope. I've been a bit disappointed that engagement on my car ID threads has dropped precipitously, and what I've learned (through Grok prompts) is that the very format of my ID threads is likely to blame: i.e., a long chain of quote tweets of reader requests. That's basically how I've been doing this since 2019 or so, but Grok has basically confirmed that this is a kind of posting behavior that the reworked amplification algorithm really dislikes, and dislike more with every new QT in the thread. I sorta get it in theory, but I like to think of my car ID stuff as a positive community service that I really, really like performing. But the upshot is that lower amplification => less non-follower engagement => fewer and fewer car ID requests from a smaller and more insular group of followers. I fear the resultant lack of fresh car mystery oxygen will eventually force me to stop DCIDS here and/or take it elsewhere. I'd rather not, though. So I'm asking those of you who like these threads for a favor: please RT or QT or at least share my ID threads so the algo doesn't choke it into a small insular oblivion. Trust me, this has nothing to do with ad rev share. 99% of my engagement comes from snarky non-weekend shitpoasting, which is completely unaffected by this issue. And honestly I don't even need the money, I actually have a pretty decent day job. But at the end of the day the car IDs are my own mental palate cleanser, a sort of enjoyable penance I love to perform. They are the main, if not the only, reason I remain here. And so if you feel the same way, you can help this thing keep going by letting people outside the DCIDS bubble know about it, at least until the Almighty Algorithm has a change of heart. Thanks again for your support, and until next time Happy Motoring.

The word "corruption," like "crisis" and "fascism," has lost all objective meaning, or more precisely has become untethered from its original meaning. Which is too bad, because those are all descriptive, evocative words, or at least, they used to be. @RichardHanania

The climate movement’s strategy is demonstrably struggling to adapt to changing circumstances, so Bill Gates — probably the single biggest climate philanthropist and clean energy investor on Earth — suggested a new, more pragmatic approach. It seems some activists prefer to smear Gates as a closeted climate denier than question their own dogma.

Should we really say "good" dog or "bad" dog? Kinda feels like a value judgment.

Isn't the term 'night owl' redundant?

If you have to use ChatGPT to write a eulogy, you probably shouldn't be one of the speakers at the funeral.

Listening to Eileen from Jason Isbell's Foxes in the Snow, I think his sense of melody is underappreciated. Those melodies, man. Those melodies. #jasonisbell @drivebytruckers

Impossible to overestimate how many people have been driven to Trump or at least away from the Dems by the abuses of the academic/activist left. Just this week, I learned of two lifelong Dems—social science prof and humanities prof—who've gone full MAGA as a result of what they witnessed or endured. I know of many others, myself included, who, while unable to countenance Trump, have gone from loyal Dems to reviling the party. Indeed, a former student, a black man FWIW, reports that he dutifully voted Harris but was surprised to find himself secretly relieved when she lost. The wound that the overweening American left has inflicted upon itself, and the empowerment that it has gifted a party which it officially regards as an existential fascist threat, surely amounts to one of history's most egregious own-goals.

Christoph Walz would totally get my vote. He could do pressers in that Inglorious Basterds accent. They'd be bangers. #HarrisWalz2024
