Ime Udoka says Alperen Sengun (back soreness) felt something early in Monday's game, but adrenaline helped him play through it. Noticed it more after.
"Got a little imaging done and saw a mild strain, so we’ll be cautious with that. Few games at most."

FINAL: Rockets 120, Hawks 110. The undefeated start (4-0) continues.
1) One of Alperen Sengun's career best games: 29 points on 11-15 FG, 9 assists, 9 boards and 6 steals. He was the clear star of this game, feasting on pick and rolls and torching Jock Landale -- they couldn't keep him from the basket. He hit another triple and is now 6-9 from deep to start the year. He was +29, by FAR the biggest "plus" of the game. It's early but he looks much better than last year.
2) Another note on the depth -- Reed Sheppard (13 points, 4 assists) and Tari Eason (13 points, 8 boards, 3 blocks) both made a significant impact in the second half.
3) Kevin Durant sat the entire fourth quarter, presumably because the bench contributors played so well.
4) Jabari Smith Jr. has been very reliable, playing the most minutes (39) tonight and contributing 16 points, 12 boards, 5 assists. His added strength has shown this year.
5) Rockets defense was concerning in the first half, giving up 66 points. The defense waking up in the second was how they pulled away. Turnovers are something to keep an eye on as well: Sengun (6), Amen (5) and KD (4) had issues with ball security.

Always enjoyed getting this group together in the gym. Plenty of talent on those bleachers, and I was fortunate to coach them.
A little @HoustonRockets throwback as Houston hosts the Hawks tonight!

Steven Adams OUT with a right soleus (calf muscle) strain. Marcus Smart questionable.
FINAL: Rockets 121, Hawks 114. No VanVleet or Smart but Rockets keep the streak going, improve to 3-0.
1) Reed Sheppard really stepped up in the start, hitting 5-11 from deep for 19 points, 7 assists, 6 boards, +19. Great bounceback after the opener. He was the X-factor.
2) Rockets depth is their biggest strength right now -- even with three keys guys out, they had seven players in double figures by late third. Five players finished with 17+
3) Atlanta broadcast just raved about Amen Thompson's impact, defensive pressure, rebounding presence. Hawks at times seemed afraid to shoot near him. He also hit 9-9 from the line tonight.
4) Very messy close where Rockets looked like the 2025-26 version -- turning it over, can't inbound the ball, etc. Fred can likely ask for a blank check at this point.
Just watching the Rockets try to close this game without Fred VanVleet reminds you of all 82 games last year.
I don't know if it's a fluke or a sign of great defense (probably somewhere in between), but teams have struggled so far to hit threes against the Rockets. Atlanta just 5-22 (22.7%) from long range in the first half. Mavs (28.9%) and Spurs (32.4%) also inefficient.
