South Africa faces a housing backlog of 3 million units and an unemployment crisis affecting 16 million people. The current delivery model has collapsed: only 24,000 houses were built last year despite a R33 billion budget, meaning it would take 125 years to clear the backlog.
It’s ironic to hear this from someone whose millions were built on the foundations of such an unequal country.
No nation can overcome inequality alone.
We need coordinated multilateral action, rooted in solidarity and shared responsibility.

The carnage and destruction of Durban continues as eThekwini municipal staff continue its devastating strike. It’s total chaos in the city, as water, electricity and other key facilities have purposely been damaged with many suburbs without water and electricity since last week. Also the continued involvement of Jacob Zuma owned MK Party with the barbaric strikers is not helping the matter. It’s absolute carnage with no end in sight.
Say those who butchered their own during the struggle against apartheid just because they did notbwsnt to participate in the violence.
