Most owners treat selling as something that happens one day, far off. Every day you don't sell, you're choosing to buy the business again. At today's price, with today's energy. Every day that you're not selling, you're effectively the buyer of the business. Would you buy yours again today, exactly as it runs now?

Everyone “had that idea.” Almost nobody did the 10,000 hours of boring work to build it.

Skydance just told staff they'll be back in the office five days a week. The reason they gave was that the best ideas come from people in the same room. My team is spread across Australia and the Philippines, so nobody can lean over a desk and ask me how something's done. That's pushed us to write down how each job gets done. When someone's stuck, that's where they look first, not my inbox. If your team couldn't tap you on the shoulder for a week, where would they look?

I've been quietly building a library of free guides on the systemHUB site. Eleven now. The newest is the biggest: the whole SYSTEMology method as a free course. Nine lessons, about 30 minutes, no signup and no email gate. Most of what I know, on a page, without asking for your email. systemhub.com/guides/how-to-…

You can be a champion of systems without being the systems champion. You're the visionary. You're built to spot the next move, not document the current one. That's exactly why it stalls when you try to drive it yourself. Give the job to someone whose job it is.

I see this with almost every business owner I work with. The habits that got you to where you are right now are usually the exact habits keeping you stuck. Being the one who knows everything. Jumping in to fix it yourself. Saying yes to every decision. It worked when the business was small. It's the ceiling now.

The UK just promised to cut £800m a year of business paperwork. Good. Nobody starts a business for the forms. But lots of owners hear "systems" and think paperwork. A good system is a recipe card on the fridge, written by the cook. Which of your systems is just paperwork?

every process we have has a document attached every document starts with why if the process no longer matches the why, we update the process if the why is no longer relevant, we delete the process every process is reviewed regularly (which is, ofc, itself a documented process)
A process you're allowed to question is a vote of confidence in the people who run it. Steve Jobs called that "optimistic humanism".

Tom Watson didn't go to work in IBM. He went to work ON IBM. Stop working IN your business just to replicate work. Build a business that works without you. 👉 Get Michael E. Gerber's new book free: bit.ly/GetFreeBookX #EMyth #MichaelEGerber #Systems

Uber just gave an AI agent to all 30,000 of its staff. When it built its first agents, engineers spent two weeks sitting beside the people doing the work. That's the bit everyone skips. AI runs on systems. Which job in your business could you hand over today?

AI can simply multiply the useless, the unimportant, the trivial, and the distracting. Separate the critical few from the trivial many.

Most business owners think scaling means doing more. I asked Renee Kelly how she grew Lime Therapy to 40 staff without burning out. Her answer wasn't about her. It was about the one person she went looking for. Watch who she found.

I used to think stepping back meant everything would fall apart. For years at Melbourne SEO Services I was the one holding it together. Every job came through me. Every decision waited on my sign off. Then I stopped trying to fix everything at once. I documented one process. The one causing the most pain that week. Not ten. One. A year later the team had a playbook to run from instead of a person to ask. I stepped away from daily operations in 2016. Eventually sold the business. I thought control meant being in every decision. Control actually came from building something that didn't need me there. Could you take three months off right now? Not a working holiday. Actually gone. That's the real test.

If your best person quit tomorrow, what would your business actually own? Most owners answer with a name. Staff move on. That's not disloyalty, that's life. What stays is what you wrote down.
