White is clearly in grave danger, despite having a pawn on the seventh rank and being an exchange up.
But the Hungarian GM-to-be Győző Forintos (still an IM at the time) defended impeccably to escape with a draw in this game against Bent Larsen in Monaco, 1967. What’s the saving plan?

rereading Dune and just came across the line “Once men turned their thinking over to machines in the hope that this would set them free. But that only permitted other men with machines to enslave them.” Frank Herbert was a prophet

I regret to inform you that nobody cares. When you’re winning, nobody cares. When you’re losing, nobody cares. Stop fearing the judgement of people who were never even thinking about you. Nobody is thinking about you. They’re too busy thinking about themselves. Go do the thing.

There are so many wonderful books to read and so little time. So far, the one I can wholeheartedly recommend is Voronkov’s books on Alekhine. I’m halfway through the first volume and loving it.
I just received a parcel from Elk and Ruby that feels like an early birthday present. 😍 The second volumes on both Capablanca and Alekhine. A beautiful tribute to Jan Timman, “The Art of Living”. And, among these giants, the first book on @FaustiOro.

Spoilering every puzzle on Twitter is just obnoxious. This is the only kind of account I block outside of total abuse.

Black’s pawn structure, with the doubled pawn, is pretty solid and not easy to crack with a frontal attack. It does, however, create a back-rank tactical weakness that didn’t escape the attention of one of the greatest attacking players in history, Alexander Alekhine.

Today is the birthday of Sofia Polgar, responsible for The Sack of Rome in 1989. 🙂
I only got to know her properly last spring, when we gave a joint lecture in New York. A truly lovely person!

I am neither pro-AI or anti-AI. It's like declaring that I am pro or against mathematics, which is just a tool after all!
In the chess sphere, most of the AI usage that I've seen is blatant and unedited. From copy-pasted ramblings that try to sound smart to new app releases that don't bring anything new compared to their predecessors...🧵👇 (1/9)
