We're finally waking up to Effective Altruism. I wrote the book on it.

Wait wait wait wait wait she met this guy and got ENGAGED TO HIM in the THREE MONTHS since the primary?
I know @HaleyforMI way better than most people on X. She and I came into Congress together in 2018. She was co-Prez of our freshman class. She was incredibly kind to me when my late partner died; she organized a big group of our class to come to the House floor to support me when I spoke about his suicide. We were roommates in 2023, after my wonderful first roomie lost her election; both my adult kids know Haley well and are on a texting basis with her. We’ve socialized and we have good friends in common. While she and I differ on one impt issue, specifically Israel and AIPAC support, I’ve never publicly challenged her on those things, because I felt that her good points outweighed the issues I disagreed with her on. Today, that changes. 👇
Haley’s endorsement of Rogers in the MI senate race is appalling. Not because he’s a Republican, but because what he stands for is what she, and I, and our caucus has fought so hard against. Rogers is a 100% anti-choice politician. He is a Trump loyalist. He’s shown his Islamophobia in his many remarks against @AbdulElSayed, and with this endorsement, Haley has shown that she agrees with his positions. I’m shocked by Haley’s endorsement. I’m terribly sad and disappointed. I’m furious and will be more so if we lose the MI senate race. So many people in the Democratic Party have shown so much support to Haley over the years, and she has betrayed them all. If this is because of her new relationship (about which many of us were so happy for her after she lost the primary), all I can say is that any woman who abandons her friends when a new guy comes along is no friend at all. The fallout for Haley won’t just be in Dem politics; she will be a pariah among her friends in the Democratic caucus in Congress. Only she will be able to decide whether it was worth it.

Unfortunately for my portfolio, tech stocks usually go down 50-70% when people start saying the math doesn’t matter and it’s fine to be wrong as long as you make money

My point isn’t on the model. It may be the worst model in the history of models. But a whole lot of the comments make it seem as if model quality is the point of investing, not making money.

Amazing response. "I work in fraud, if you need 2.5k in cash, it may well be fraud"
"Dude, I have a regular use case for that. Which happens to be fraud."

a reminder that barack obomber had DOOM denied re-entry to the united states, where he had lived since he was a child, when he tried to return home from a tour in 2010. have always kinda wondered if this was a protection play at the urging of billionaire cringe merchant jay z

When I'm in a torpedoing my political career competition and my opponents are Haley Stevens and Vivek Ramaswarmy
AI companies are already figuring out they don’t need what they signed up for and they are trying to offload it. I can only imagine the underlying debt financing not being paid. Exactly what I have been predicting. This is the tip of the iceberg.

As I report here ...
- Stevens told numerous high profile Dems last night she was voting for AES
- staff was literally waiting at the unity rally thinking she was about to arrive
- even key Dems who are similarly skeptical of AES are baffled and aghast

Begged my boyfriend to take a picture of this vet sign I saw while in the uber home last night because my phone was dead. I was drunk and it made me so emotional. I just kept repeating “the cat is helping the dog. The cat is helping the dog”

One thing freakout about Pangram and AI watermarks shows is the AI people who claimed everyone would just "get used to" AI and "no one will care" if you use AI were naive. Part of the naivete was not factoring in the infinite *glut* of LLM text that inherently demands filtration

I wouldn't put it past Sama to "botch" his own minor fundraiser in order to mess up Anthropic's IPO.

Their identity is rolled up in being "ahead of the curve". When you point out that their whole worldview is based on faulty premise, they treat it as a threat to their identity. The more credible you are and the more receipts you bring, the harder they retaliate

I truly do not understand why some people get so offended when I say AI isn't alive, conscious, aware, or capable of emotions, feelings, desires, understanding, etc...
As a computer scientist in AI (and also a tech founder), I see it the other way around.
People who have no idea how AI works trying to draw relations and conclusions about its abilities telling me I don’t know what I’m talking about.
My stance shouldn’t be controversial, AI is a computer program, a mathematical model doing large matrix statistics, and it is impossible for it to give rise to feelings, desires, emotions, awareness, understanding, or consciousness, and comparing it to biological systems is foolish.
And before you start telling me about the people who are saying it who are experts… they have an agenda.
Even the “Godfather of AI” (more like “God Complex”) is selling books and fear sells, as does popularity, interviews, and making batshit crazy claims.
Most of the tooling that people use to build and inference models is open source. You can read it yourself (if you know how) or you can have agent do it and explain it to you. I can assure you, its design is to emulate and generalize on its training data, not be alive.
So I’m curious how many people who know very little about how AI works will argue with me saying how little I know about consciousness, biological processes, or that my stance is somehow influenced by me being a tech bro / CEO in AI…

No it’s investors who are paying for this, taking a big risk. The rest of you don’t deserve a say. You can decide to be a customer or supplier or to sit this out. Those are your legit options.

"Using AI" isn't what prepares you for the future.
Winners will be those with the critical faculties to know when something that looks like an advantage is actually just you paying a monthly fee to be handicapped.
We’ve raised $1.3M from YC & Afore Capital so you never have to type or speak again.
Typing is slow. Talking into your computer is awkward. Subvocal fixes both
Our glasses give you the speed of speech without you making a sound or touching a keyboard.
It tracks your internal speech muscles with non-contact sensing and decodes silent, almost invisible mouthing into text at more than 200 words/min.

America achieving an unheard of level of global cultural hegemony only to give it up because a bunch of 75 IQ small business owners didn’t understand soft power has to be one of the greatest imperial self owns in human history
Even Iranian people who I’ve spoken to/DM’ed who still support “Iranian Islamic Revolutionism” on a personal level basically admit that their ideology is dead in Millenials and Zoomers and everyone under ~40 in Iran is essentially an atheist who watches all the recent ‘decadent Western movies’, anime and Vizieslop Hazbin Hotel shows essentially.
This is why Trump attacking Iran for 1srael is retarded even from a “U.S. national interests geopolitical realism” perspective btw.
The Obama/Kerry doctrine of essentially buttering Iran up so they would eventually ‘integrate into the world system’, drop the ‘Islamic’ and just become “Republic of” - Was essentially working.
Trump doing what he did disgraced the ‘reformists’ and now despite their ideologies general unpopularity with the youth, the ‘hardliners’ are now still basically in charge.
