On this International Day of #Democracy, @democraticfr joins all Ugandans in reflecting on the journey of democracy in #Uganda. The DF notes that while progress has been registered, true democracy, the kind every nation yearns for, recquires more than periodic and manipulated elections. It demands respect for the rule of law, protection of civil liberties, inclusive dialogue, tolerance for divergent views, and strong, independent institutions that serve all citizens equally. The DF believes that to meaningfully achieve this ideal, Uganda must commit to open political space, transparent governance, and placing the welfare of the people above partisan interests. Democracy thrives when every voice counts. The party reaffirms its commitment to a peaceful, just and democratic Uganda for all. @MathiasMpuuga @KYAMBADDER @EAsamurai @PascalAmuriat @Isacmpanga @HonKasibante

FLASHBACK VIDEO: Had the regime listened and acted on wise counsel by given by @democraticfr president @MathiasMpuuga on floor of @Parliament_Ug in 2023 and 2024, the inflation rate might have been a bit lower, not as worse as today. Based on the regressive taxation system that the regime rans through turning the URA a mere revenue target entity not a facilitator of stability of the country's economic which in effect, has led to the collapse of a substantial percentage of businesses owing to the high tax burdens. #RealChangeActNow @WinifredNakandi @Isacmpanga @mofpedU @KYAMBADDER @NalubyayiZahara @juliet_kakande @SimonKaggwaNjal @bbstvug @PascalAmuriat @AshirafMugalul1

BANK OF UGANDA HOLDS THE WRONG SIDE OF THE SWORD ON THE ECONOMIC DOWNTURN Yesterday, 14th October 2026, the Central Bank released the September Monetary Policy Statement, with the key outlook largely being the increase in the Central Bank Rate (CBR) and the Cash Reserve Requirement (CRR), both of which have major implications for the lives of citizens. The monetary policy wonks at the Central Bank elected to “eat away” people’s welfare without dust or noise. We are all alive to the global energy crisis and how it ends up in our pockets and munches away the precious dollar. The implication is that the price of gas paints the overall basic basket. We also know that food supplies have dwindled across various parts of the country due to prolonged drought, meaning that the energy crisis has only exacerbated high food prices by adding to the cost of supply. Gen. Museveni is convinced from basic economics that a depreciating local currency is good for our exports. Granted. The question, however, is: what are we exporting in the short run to benefit from the shilling depreciation? It’s highly unlikely that this phenomenon will last 24 months. Given the nature of our external account, we may not take benefit of this situation. It’s also true that the disequilibrium on our external account is occasioned by energy and steel imports. We are net importers of these major drivers of the economy. Our exports sector has very limited manufacturing capability. Coffee exports that constitute the majority of the earnings have suffered a significant beating from the prolonged drought. Where is the rest of the expectation to take advantage of the rising Dollar? Dairy products? Gold? Or other precious metals? Very fragile prospects! The contractionary monetary policy adopted by the Central Bank presumed that the current inflationary pressures are from the demand side of the economy, thus the need to squeeze out excess liquidity from the economy. Is the central bank alive to major supply constraints that will deter any assumed benefit from the rising dollar? The CBR being raised by 3% has heart-stopping implications for the already existing supply constraints. Has the Central Bank thought about possible job losses in the short-run and local revenue implications? The commercial banks in Uganda rarely offer fixed lending rates to borrowers. What is the fate of the local borrower who is likely to receive notification of revised interest rates? What of the implications for the basic basket of the fixed-income earners, since the Central Bank seems to have made assumptions of demand side inflation? The Central Bank has a duty of maintaining stability of the currency and does so on behalf of the government. Should we then ready ourselves for a government follow-up in the form of: 1. Utility rebates on water and energy? 2. Payee rebates for the lower-bracket fixed-salary earners for at least two quarters so that their basic basket doesn’t shrink further? 3. At least 10% domestic arrears payment release for key sectors to sustain production and employment? Oba Ntwale eri Olugezigezi??

Speaking with his Economist hat on, @democraticfr president @MathiasMpuuga penned an elaborate and articulate response to @BOU_Official's decision to raise the Central Bank Rate (CBR) from 9.75% to 12% At the tail end of his response, Honourable Mpuuga demanded the Government to undertake the following alternatives to shield Ugandans from the consquences of the inflation; 1. Utility rebates on water and energy 2. Payee rebates for the lower-bracket fixed-salary earners for at least two quarters so that their basic basket doesn’t shrink further 3. At least 10% domestic arrears payment release for key sectors to sustain production and employment #RealChangeActNow

History avid haters will never want the people to know about Hon. @MathiasMpuuga, but unfortunately, they have no capability to erase. Guy made his indelible leadership legacy which no one will be able to take away.
FLASHBACK VIDEO: @democraticfr President @MathiasMpuuga: As a LoP, he exhibited that he was a fearless voice that shook Parliament for #Justice. He could not be comfortable while fellow liberation fighters, the late Hon. Ssegirinya and Hon. Allan Ssewanyana were in the hands of the regime. He is a man whose leadership in Parliament was a platform to fight for freedom for all, not a privilege for an individual. #RealChangeActNow @dericnamakajo1 @SimonKaggwaNjal @bbstvug @namuguzintale @KYAMBADDER @zabuli9 @Mwembugaoficial @AshirafMugalul1 @juliet_kakande @WinifredNakandi @NalubyayiZahara

He was the first Leader of Opposition to receive a Standing OVATION in Parliament from the entire House when he was handing over to Senyonyi. He is a likable and knowledgeable person, calm and collected, witty and well meaning

Watch: youtube.com/watch?v=BqBWYdXh… "The leaders who inherited the hard-won struggle of our forefathers for our dear motherland's independence 64 years ago, have ruled us worse than the colonizers did,"- @democraticfr president @MathiasMpuuga. While eulogizing Mzee Zabala Emmanuel Mpologoma, the father Namuguzi Ntale Jude, a fervent DF supporter in Naama Mityana on October 8, 2026, Oweek Mpuuga asked young people of today to reawaken the hard-work spirit of forefathers if Uganda is to achieve what they were fighting for. He described the late Zinabala as a hard fighter who played his role thus urging Ntale to emulate his father's good deeds. May Mzee Zabala's Soul Rest in perfect peace. #RealChangeActNow Courtesy Video @Sabula_tv

VIDEO: During a press conference at the party headquarters on October 7, 2026, @democraticfr President @MathiasMpuuga said that enough is enough of the atrocities and rights abuses being committed by security forces. He affirmed that the worsening situation necessitates a climb down from high horses by those taking themselves to be powerful for a candid and consequential, structured national dialogue aimed at building a consensus regarding a new Uganda that works for all without discrimination. #RealChangeActNow

@democraticfr president @MathiasMpuuga on the humiliating arrest and incarceration of @PFFUganda chairman @EriasLukwago by the regime. "We have one country we all call home which can accomodate all of us. Political contestations and disagreements are permanent and pensionable, but we should agree fundamentally on the boundaries of our disagreements, and where to stop while exerting energy against enemies..." #RealChangeActNow
