The @FIFAcom (Fédération Internationale de Football Association) was founded on May 21, 1904, in Paris, France, at the headquarters of the Union des Sociétés Françaises de Sports Athlétiques on Rue Saint-Honoré. The seven founding members were: * Union Belge des Sociétés de Sports Athlétiques (Belgium) * Dansk Boldspil-Union (Denmark) * Fédération Française de Football (France, represented at the time by the USFSA) * Koninklijke Nederlandse Voetbalbond (Netherlands) * Real Federación Española de Fútbol (Spain, represented by Madrid FC, the club that later became Real Madrid) * Svenska Fotbollförbundet (Sweden) * Association Suisse de Football (Switzerland) The first FIFA president was Robert Guérin, a French sports journalist who was just 28 years old when he was elected. Why was FIFA created? By the early 1900s, football was rapidly growing across Europe, but there was no international body to govern matches between countries, and each nation had its own football association. FIFA was established to: Coordinate international football competitions. Promote a common set of rules (working alongside the International Football Association Board, which oversees the Laws of the Game). Resolve disputes between national football associations. Promote and develop football around the world. Although FIFA was founded in 1904, it did not organize the first FIFA World Cup until 1930. The tournament was held in Uruguay under the leadership of FIFA president Jules Rimet. The original World Cup trophy was named the Jules Rimet Trophy in his honor.

Spain controls Ceuta, an enclave on the North African coast that Morocco has long claimed as its own. Yet every time Moroccans risk their lives swimming to reach Ceuta, Spain (& Europe!) acts shocked. If you believe Ceuta is fundamentally Moroccan territory, the irony is hard to miss.

Worth watching this U.S. COVID timeline alongside Dr. Anthony Fauci’s recent congressional testimony

Yesterday’s England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 –Argentina 🇦🇷 match was a great reminder that, in sports as in business, nothing is won until the final whistle. Never rest on your laurels. Keep pushing!!!

So many stronger teams deserved the spot #Paraguay earned last night (like #senegal to name only one). Paraguay got it - and completely squandered it.

Paraguay tried so hard to kill the game that they ended up killing themselves #france #paraguay

Down 0–1 in a World Cup knockout game and England are moving the ball as if they’re protecting a 3–0 lead in the 88th minute. No urgency, no chaos, no desperation. Strange watch. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🇨🇩
