Jamie Oliver says he lost about £25 million of his own money, roughly $30 million, trying to save his restaurants. It wasn't enough. In the video below, he walks through his first restaurant after it closed, and breaks down. At its peak, his chain had 42 Jamie's Italian restaurants in Britain and turned over £108 million a year. In 2019, it collapsed. 22 restaurants closed in one day, around 1,000 people lost their jobs, and creditors were left with about £83 million in losses. Walking through the empty building, he says it feels like a bomb went off and everyone left. He stops at a plaque for two of his former apprentices who died, and can't hold back the tears. He admits he was good at running one restaurant, but was never really a businessman. Not everyone felt sorry for him. British papers reported that months before the collapse, he and his wife took £5.2 million in dividends from his media company. Now he's bringing Jamie's Italian back. Would you have the courage to start over after losing $30 million, or would you walk away for good?
