From awareness to action: the dental profession has a vital role to play in HPV prevention Dentists and other oral health professionals are uniquely positioned to make a difference in the prevention and early recognition of HPV-associated oropharyngeal cancer. Yet gaps in professional education, communication, and HPV vaccination advocacy remain. In a new commentary and editorial published in the International Dental Journal, experts call for stronger integration of the dental profession into HPV prevention efforts. From students to changemakers. 🏆🇲🇽 Last month at the #WorldOralHealthDay 2027 launch in Prague, we were proud to recognise the Hermosillo Dental Student Association, Mexico — winner of the Best Campaign by a Dental Students’ Association #WOHD26 award. For #WOHD26, the association brought together prevention, education and community engagement across schools, academic events and outreach activities. A major highlight was the nationwide CEIPIDI school-based prevention programme, where dental students and professionals helped children build healthy oral health habits through games and activities featuring Toothie. 🦷 Their campaign also connected with the Magno Congreso de Odontología XLIV and an IADS international volunteering programme, creating further opportunities for collaboration and learning with key stakeholders.
