🎉 25 YEARS OF @faceygroup! 🎉
What a brilliant way to celebrate—with plenty of trial talk, interesting results, good food, live music and even a little karaoke!
Highlights from our 2026 Field Walk included an always-interesting presentation from Dr Allan Rattey at the oats trial, an insightful update from Dr Meredith Guthrie on the seasonal outlook, and seeing just how quickly the acidic soils responded to nano-lime at the Innovative Soils Technologies trial.
Then it was time to celebrate with cupcakes, live music from the Tinny Band and a few special guests taking to the karaoke microphone… but we’re not naming names! 🎤😉
A huge thank you to everyone who joined us and to all those who have contributed to Facey Group’s journey since 2001.
Here’s to 25 years of grower-led research, local impact and shaping the future—and to many more years ahead! 💚🧡

🌾Grow lupins? We want to hear from you!
What’s working, what isn’t, and what could make lupins a better fit in your farming system?
Take our 7-minute grower survey and share your experience. Your input will help build a clearer picture of how lupins are managed locally and where future R&D could make a difference.
👉 Complete the survey here: bit.ly/4xZWdFR
This survey is part of a @TheGRDC funded project led by the Grower Group Alliance (GGA) and delivered locally by @FaceyGroup, helping build a better understanding of lupin management across our region and inform future R&D.
🎙️ MAKING THE CALL WITH FACEY GROUP GROWER, ROGER NEWMAN
How do you make a cropping plan when the season may have other ideas?
In the latest Making the Call podcast, @FaceyGroup member & local grower Roger Newman shares how he approaches cropping decisions when there’s risk, uncertainty & a season that doesn’t always follow the plan.
Roger talks through how he starts with the market he hopes to supply, works backwards to build his cropping program, weighs up risk & adapts when conditions change.
It’s a practical grower-to-grower conversation about the thinking behind the decisions – not just the decisions themselves.

🎥 CONTAINMENT OR PADDOCK – HOW DO THE NUMBERS STACK UP?
When it comes to finishing Merino lambs, performance is one part of the equation. What does each system mean for the bottom line?
Now live on the Facey Group YouTube channel, Michael Young from Farm Optimisation Group takes a closer look at the economics of lamb finishing, using modelling to compare containment and traditional paddock-based systems.
The presentation explores the factors that can shift the economics, including feed use, costs, lamb performance, market readiness & whole-farm outcomes.
It’s part of our @MeatLivestock Producer Demonstration Site project, Optimising Merino Lamb Performance through Containment, which is putting these systems to the test across the WA Wheatbelt & Upper Great Southern.

If you’re weighing up containment, already using it or simply want to better understand where it could fit in your sheep enterprise, this is well worth a watch.

🌾 WHAT A WEEK IT WAS!
This time last week, we were wrapping up a massive five-day road trip, bringing @TheGRDC Harvester Set-Up Workshops to growers across the region.
From Cascade to Mount Sheridan, Carrolup, Kukerin & Quairading, we covered plenty of kilometres – and shared a wealth of harvest knowledge along the way!
A huge thank you to everyone who joined us, asked questions, shared experiences & got involved in the practical discussions.
Across the five workshops, our specialist presenters shared their expertise on reducing harvest losses, improving harvester efficiency, HWSC, fire prevention, grain storage & getting more from your harvest operation.
A big thank you to @PrimarySales & our fellow grower groups for working alongside @FaceyGroup to bring these workshops to the region – and especially to our specialist presenters for generously sharing their time, knowledge & experience.
Five days. Five communities. Plenty of kilometres. A huge amount of knowledge shared.
Now to put it all into practice as harvest approaches!

No lectures. No judgement. Just an honest conversation about what works, what doesn’t & what could make managing safety on farm easier.
Most importantly, your input will help shape a practical farm safety management tool designed by growers, for growers.

10 MINUTES OF YOUR TIME CAN MAKE A BIG DIFFERENCE TO 4 YEARS OF RESEARCH ⏲️🌱
@FaceyGroup are asking growers to spare just 10 minutes to help researchers better understand the challenges of high P-fixing soils — & where research can make the biggest difference on-farm.
👉 TAKE THE 10-MINUTE SURVEY NOW: bit.ly/4xERwSv
Are you applying P fertiliser but not seeing the response you expect? High P-fixing soils could be part of the problem.
These soils rapidly convert applied phosphorus into forms that are poorly available to crops, potentially resulting in:
• Yield reductions of up to 50%
• Low P use efficiency
• Poor return on fertiliser investment
A new 4-year @theGRDC investment, led by @AgricultureVictoria is working to improve how growers & advisers identify and manage high P-fixing soils.
But good research needs grower input.
Whether you know you have high P-fixing soils, suspect you might, or have experienced unexplained poor responses to P fertiliser, your experience matters.
10 minutes from you = valuable real-world insight for researchers to help shape 4 years of research, better management strategies & practical outcomes for growers.
