Today on November the 6th, our father, my mother's husband went home to be with his mother whom he lost when he was a young man. He also went to be with his father, whom he loved and respected immensely. Richard Neece Ojeda lived an extraordinary life. He enjoyed the love of a wonderful woman. He traveled the world and lived a life of service that started in the US Air Force and continued after graduating from the Mayo Clinic where he was commissioned as an officer in the US Army. After military service my father spent the next 55 years practicing anesthesia. He was the first man in Logan County history to perform an epidural at Logan Regional Hospital in Logan, WV. Over many years, he would be remembered as the man who gave the majority of epidurals for those giving birth in Logan County, West Virginia. My father enjoyed traveling to Guatemala where he worked with Doctors Without Borders and administered anesthesia to children born with cleft palates. On a normal trip to perform that work, he would treat over 1000 children every time he was there. Our father traveled the world. One of my favorite conversations with my father was in 1990, when I was stationed in Germany. I was at the train station in Frankfort when I called home. My father would tell me the details of that train station because he had also spent time there a couple of decades before me. In 2003, my father flew to South Korea to spend a couple of weeks with me where we climbed volcanoes in the South China Sea. We rode in a submarine and visited temples all across Cheju-Do Island. At the end of those two weeks, we both flew to Hawaii where we visited the USS Arizona at Pearl Harbor, visited Ernie Pyle's grave at the Punchbowl and climbed Diamond Head Peak in Honolulu. Our father was a very well-read man. He maintained a library in our home that is still in existence today. He was an avid supporter of scientists like Albert Einstein, Neal deGrasse Tyson and Carl Sagan and could spend hours talking about quarks and black holes. My father was a passionate Catholic and said his rosary almost every night. He was proud to be a member of the Knights of Columbus.........and my father was a very generous man. He gave freely. He loved everybody and believed that everyone deserved a second chance. He loved to ski and spent time skiing in Canada, Colorado and of course in the mountains of West Virginia. But most importantly, He loved his family. He spoke of his brothers and sisters often and was truly proud of each and every one of them. He would often speak about his brothers who all had reputations as being some of the best welders to work for the mines in southern West Virginia. His fondest memories go back to his childhood when he lived in the Coal Camp in Dehue, West Virginia. They didn't grow up with a lot of money.......but they were rich in love. His father taught every one of them the value of hard work while their mother showed them all how to be generous with those around them. If you were a child that was close to their home when it was dinner time, she fed them too. I could continue speaking the praises of my wonderful father. We will love him forever and live lives that will guarantee us all, that we will see him again. Love you Pop ❤️

Still trying to wrap my head around last night. What a surreal honor to receive the Pulitzer Prize in General Nonfiction for There Is No Place for Us. Above all, I'm overwhelmed with gratitude to the five families who entrusted me with their stories and made this book possible.

I predict Ojeda is gonna make a Republican politician cry at some point. They have no idea what will hit them with this guy.

You have a huge future and I was so inspired by you. Proud to be in your corner
In a gerrymandered district, our campaign was within a single point of winning. Thank you to everyone who worked to make that a reality. I am immensely grateful. I will continue to fight for the people of TN and together our movement is just getting started.

This is correct. Across the country, in red states and blue, Democratic candidates adopted the fight Bernie led for years: for the people against the powerful. You lead that fight and welcome *everyone* to join you, you win.
This contentious interchange between the NY Times and @GinaHinojosaTX was truly amazing. Hinojosa offered one of the best explanations of populism I've ever seen. Her comments were a total rejection of Corporate Dems' neoliberal formula. Her Texas victory is a game changer.

Brother Scott Houldieson changed my life. He welcomed me into a ragtag group of UAW reformers, asked me to step into a leadership role, & lit the path for us to change our union from the inside. He’s going to do the same for Indiana—I can’t wait to call him Senator Scott! 😭
I’m sorry but this is actually the biggest story of the night. Scott is a Ford worker out of Local 551 who was instrumental in reforming the UAW, winning direct elections in the union, and electing Shawn Fain The best working class politics story of the night

My doctor sent me a note last night about my Diet Coke consumption (I didn’t know she followed me). Thought I’d better start with orange juice this morning instead.

Kentucky, thank you. In spite of tremendous odds, the work we did was incredible. We stood up for truth, leaned into the power of community, and proved that progress is absolutely still possible. No, we didn’t win the Senate race, but look at all we accomplished together. Because of you, over 100 counties shifted blue, 9 state legislative seats flipped, and a Democrat is now going to Congress for the 6th Congressional District. Am I saddened I didn’t pull it off for you? Yes I am. But I am proud of US? ABSOLUTELY!!! For every person who took a chance and lifted their voice, thank you. To every Republican, Democrat, and Independent who locked arms with me in this fight, thank you. For every vote, every prayer, every hug, every door knocked, every call/text/post, every dollar donated, and every word of love and encouragement, I thank you. I thank God for the opportunity to be on the frontline with you. Come what may, I always will. That’s what family is all about. Let’s keep going. Love y’all.

Zohran Mamdani: “It’s not enough for us as Democrats to win power. We have to use that power to deliver change that Americans can feel in their wallets. When you look at these campaigns, if we want to speak about James Talarico, he campaigned on a vision for universal childcare. If you want to talk about Keisha Lance Bottoms, she campaigned on a vision of cutting red tape to build housing. If you want to talk about Jocelyn Benson, she campaigned on a moratorium for data centers. What I’m excited to see now is a recognition that the work is only just starting and this has to be delivered for working people across the country”

I’ve been with you @RoseAnnDeMoro @RoKhanna @GunnelsWarren @BernieSanders @FlyingWithSara And will stand with you as we bring the sanders agenda home
It's Bernie's Moment: Legacy and the Long Game Years ago when @SenSanders came to the @CalNurses and asked if he made a decision to run for President, would we support him. It was the beginning. We did. Heart and Soul. We swept across the country and we lost, twice actually. But along the way we educated, agitated, organized, gained the most principled allies, incredible people, like @AbdulElSayed. And last night - we won! Thank you Bernie and Jane and thank you everyone who worked for so many years to inspire the #PeopleforBernie to rise up and take control of our country. And thank you to the pioneers of this time, the nurses & staff of @CalNurses & @NationalNurses who gave it all and 'believed'....
