Hewo everybody! I hope you're all having a fantabulous day! Here's the schedule for the week! Now I must apologize for being a bit late disclosing this, but you may have noticed that Greer was almost entirely absent last week. Everything is fine, she just decided to take an extended break becoming burnt out from things going wrong all month what with the internet problems and so on. A lot of the plans for October fell through unfortunately, being the last week there just isn't enough time to complete all the games she had planned, at the very least MediEvil and Outlast will be rounding out this last week of October.

Kirsche was lied to, and told that it was the sponsors that threatened to pull out. In reality, they literally just conspired to do it in their official public Discord server discord.com/channels/3649463… It was absolutely not the the sponsors It was the organziers/activists
Honorable Chatters, unfortunately I won't be at Youmacon this year I was really looking forward to this one, but it came down to sponsor concerns If you bought a badge for my panel, you can email [email protected] by noon ET on Wednesday, October 28 with your order number, name, and email for a refund. Thank you all for the support

You're arguing against a point nobody is actually making. Well, the phrasing of the argument is poor, but the ACTUAL argument. The problem isn't politics in video games. The problem is shitty writing and ham-fisted political messaging that ruins otherwise good entertainment. Most of us have absolutely no problem with political themes in games, movies, or television. We have a problem when writers sacrifice storytelling, character development, and entertainment to beat the audience over the head with their personal politics. Take Star Trek, for example. Star Trek is basically space socialism in a post-scarcity economy. Its practically a laundry list of political and economic ideas that most conservatives like me fundamentally disagree with. And you know what? I fucking LOVE Star Trek. Why? Because the stories are excellent. The characters are compelling. The writing makes you think. Some of the older episodes are preachy. Some are EXTREMELY preachy. Even when I disagree with the message, I can appreciate the storytelling. Here's another example: Hardspace: Shipbreaker. It's a game about being a blue-collar worker dismantling enormous spaceships for a corporation that has turned exploitative employment practices into an Olympic sport. The game is VERY pro-union. You could reasonably describe its politics as socialist or at least heavily sympathetic to organized labor. And you know what? I LOVE THAT GAME, TOO. The mechanics are fantastic. Cutting apart enormous spaceships in zero gravity, carefully extracting valuable components, and occasionally turning yourself into a rapidly expanding cloud of debris because you accidentally cut through a fuel line is genuinely entertaining. And the pro-union message? IT FITS THE STORY. You're playing an exploited worker trying to survive under an absurdly oppressive corporate system. Of COURSE labor organizing is going to be part of that story. The politics emerge naturally from the world, the characters, and the circumstances. I might disagree with some of the broader political conclusions, but I don't feel like the developers are wasting my time by including them. The politics are part of the storytelling, not a substitute for it. Now compare that to Dragon Age: The Veilguard, where we get clumsy lectures about gender identity and characters practically turning to the camera to explain the writers' political opinions. πŸ€–πŸ€–That's not storytelling. That's a mandatory corporate diversity seminar with a fantasy RPG awkwardly attached to it.πŸ€–πŸ€– And before you misunderstand me, there's absolutely nothing wrong with having gay, transgender, or nonbinary characters in a story. But for FUCKS SAKE, give them personalities, motivations, conflicts, and character arcs. Make them interesting PEOPLE instead of walking political statements. Making them just walking political statements insults them and the reader/player, too. Here's another example. Imagine watching Aliens, one of the greatest science fiction action movies ever made. Imagine, if halfway through the movie, Corporal Hicks suddenly puts down his pulse rifle, looks directly at the camera, and launches into a fifteen-minute lecture about the Second Amendment, the importance of civilian gun ownership, and why gun control advocates are idiots. I'd probably agree with the entire screed. I'D STILL THINK IT WAS FUCKING TERRIBLE WRITING. I came to watch Ripley fight xenomorphs, not attend an NRA convention on LV-426. The political message isn't the problem. The fact that you've brought the entire story to a screeching halt to deliver it, is. Good writers understand how to weave political and philosophical ideas into their stories. They create situations where characters confront difficult questions, make choices, suffer consequences, and occasionally discover that their beliefs were wrong. Bad writers stop the story to lecture the audience, then congratulate themselves for being courageous. Here's the really frustrating part: Ham-fisted political messaging doesn't just ruin the story. It cheapens the message itself. You can absolutely put politics in your video games. Some of the greatest games ever made are deeply political. Star Trek makes me think about societies I wouldn't necessarily want to live in. Shipbreaker makes me sympathize with a labor movement whose broader politics I don't necessarily share. That's what good art is SUPPOSED to do. It makes you engage with ideas, even ones you disagree with. Just learn the difference between telling a compelling story that explores political ideas and using a video game as a delivery mechanism for your personal manifesto. That's the distinction you dipshits keep missing.
β€œNo one wants politics in their game.” They do know some of the biggest games in the medium have political messaging, right? - Metal Gear Solid - Call of Duty - Starcraft - Halo - Fallout - Grand Theft Auto - BioShock - Wolfenstein - The Elder Scrolls The list is endless…

Account suspension at twitter just got even messier. "You can no longer Auth with X" Which means if someone had a recurring payment on their X connected app, you are now locked into that payment. If the company is kind enough to leave contact detail you might be able to cancel, but this means a loss of services twitter/X is wholey responsible for. X is not, nor will it ever be a serious OIDC with its suspension policies. Someone can get reported for CSAM and their post was "Meta is do backkkk" and experience a ban or worse, in Stanky 's case. X will never have the trust needed for X banking. Because 20 Sonic fans may take exception to meme on the state of natalism in sonicland. Users paying hundreds of dollars a year, need recourseβ€”real human recourseβ€”or your product remains a gimmick. Why would I trust X? The money may technically be there, but why would I build my house on X's sandy beaches? X won't even talk to me. All systems are automated and those automations are broken. Who do I contact when something breaks? Look at the state of the App and ask yourself if they are this incapable of running a stable website, how can you trust them to run stable transactions? Elon has reinvented cryptocurrency, but the one bridge out expects him to play nice with your accounts. And he won't treat your socials well. Now, will Elon break that trust with your cash? No. But that connection of flippant moderation and lack of human review poisons trust. Seriously, the problem with X, the entire problem of X, is in the appeals. You can't even submit screenshots. Threads of evidence are deleted before you can source them. Who is actually paying attention as Wormtongue runs the kingdom? X was happy to take my money, but they need to take the contract seriously. I am obviously not the only one who deals with this and it's been a concern on my mind for years. I am blunt and argumentative. And that means that my personality is a ban risk. Improve your product X, implement real moderation. Treat paying customers with the respect of a real human reviewer. Take down offending posts, not the account associated. Establish patterns, not strikes. End mass reporting. Obey your own TOU. #FreeStanky

Hey retards. We’re not happy BioWare is getting shut down or being bought by Saudi Arabia or whatever. We tried, we begged, we told you guys to stop doing this shit to games and you laughed in our faces thinking you’d won because you’d taken over studios and entire industries responsible for making the things we love. So yes, we’re happy you lost. We’re happy you got fired, but we’re not happy it came at the cost of a legendary studio that was destroyed by people who didn’t build it.
