In Indianapolis, 495 people have been shot and 155 have been stabbed, with 94 homicides recorded over 280 days in 2026. Based on current figures, the city is on track to record 123 homicides in 2026. The city is now moving in the right direction compared with 2021, when Indianapolis experienced a record 271 homicides. From 2000 to 2012, Indianapolis averaged 96 murders and 114 homicides before public safety became politicized in the city. I believe it is possible in the near future to reduce criminal homicides to fewer than 90 and total homicides to fewer than 100 in Indianapolis. Urban violence can be reduced dramatically through effective intervention and prevention strategies, and by ensuring that prosecutors and the courts hold repeat violent offenders accountable.

Yesterday, I was at the Carriage House East Apartments with one of the Far East Side Indianapolis TenPoint patrol teams. As reflected in these photographs, we have become part of the community. Residents come outside to greet us and chat about a variety of topics. I told several residents that I may need to deputize them as Indy TenPoint street outreach workers because they help maintain peace when we are not patrolling the complex. This is how a safe community is built. ☮️ #ResultsMatter #WorkingTogetherWorks #PeaceInTheStreets – at Spring Hill, IN

I was in the Bean Creek Neighborhood tonight with the ladies as they carried out their weekly public safety patrol and engaged residents. This is similar to a crime watch group, with members actively on the ground, doing a great job connecting with residents and helping keep crime and violence down in the neighborhood, in partnership with IMPD. #ResultsMatter #WorkingTogetherWorks #PeaceInTheStreets – at Spring Hill, IN

In the high-crime urban neighborhoods of the city, decades of poverty and blighted areas persist. These areas often lack access to fresh food, with high-priced gas stations serving as the primary grocery sources. These areas are flooded with drugs, drug trafficking, guns, gangs, and cliques. About 70% of black children are born into single-parent households. This environment provides the context in which the Indianapolis TenPoint Coalition works to reduce urban youth violence, which disproportionately affects young men of color aged 12-24.

If you're not out on the street where these young people are, then you don't know what's really going on. People would be surprised by what we hear from both children and juveniles in the streets. This helps us stay ahead of a lot of the conflicts and beefs before they turn violent in the 12 hotspot patrol areas of the Indianapolis TenPoint Coalition.

I was out patrolling with @Indytenpoint OGs to help curb the pattern of urban youth violence impacting black males ages 12-24 at the Carriage House East Apartments at 42nd and Mitthoefer Rd tonight. 8 Indy TenPoint Coalition patrol teams patrol 12 hotspot areas across the city. Each patrol team is out 4 or 5 nights each week, regardless of the weather, trying to help keep the peace and help keep at-risk black males ages 12-24 alive, out of prison, and on a pathway of success. Since 1999, 87 times, Indy TenPoint Coalition patrol areas in partnership with IMPD and the community have gone an entire year without a criminal homicide of black males ages 12-24. Homicide is the leading cause of death for black males in America, ages 12-24. 🕊
