Amy Acton’s estranged mother knew her husband had a daughter from a previous marriage who’d also accused him of rape.
But when 12-year-old Amy told her mom that he was raping her, instead of concluding she was married to a pedophile rapist she concluded both girls were lying.

If one must sell one’s soul and reject decency to be elected to office in Ohio, then I praise my Savior and Protector that @ohiogop pushed Dave out of the race a year before the primary. Lord forgive us - and save our republic

The Ramaswamy ad in Ohio goes way, WAY out of bounds of political discourse. It is immoral - he will likely lose as this will back fire. The President is wrong to praise it. wsj.com/politics/elections/t…

Why the Ramaswamy campaign released the controversial attack ad featuring Amy Acton's mother

At some point it's all just too much, no? People putting politics above basic human decency? Normal people still find this stuff repulsive, right?
President Trump strongly defends Vivek Ramaswamy’s ad featuring Amy Acton’s estranged mom. Trump: “That took a lot of courage to do but, essentially, what she was really doing was saving Ohio from making a truly horrible choice! The Press is trying to convince everyone that this Ad is bad, because it’s so good! Who wouldn’t use such an Ad? I would, it’s called, ‘hitting pay dirt.’”

“Putin is not a humanitarian, or he wouldn’t be holding any of our citizens hostage,” @paulnwhelan says on @jaketapper’s program. “That’s ridiculous to even call him a humanitarian. Relaxing sanctions, doing anything that benefits Putin and Russia right now is a mistake. We should be tightening the screws on Putin, tightening the screws on Russia, and making them give our citizens back.”
Russia must release Chuck Zimmerman, Aleksandr Antonov, Olga Jezler, Andre Khachatoorian, and David Barnes, and let them see their families again.
My ears are blocked these days because of the unnecessary noise. Chuck Zimmerman, Aleksandr Antonov, Olga Jezler, Andre Khachatoorian, and David Barnes still woke up in Russian gulag this morning feeling left behind. Thank you @jaketapper for telling Olga's story. Stop the insults. All sides. Focus on bringing the rest of them home. @POTUS @StateSPEHA @SEPeaceMissions

Renacci, a longtime Ohio GOP pol, says overnight that “the floor may have just fallen out from under” Vivek Ramaswamy’s campaign and that it could take down other candidates:
For those who follow the daily polls and political trends, the floor may have just fallen out from under the Republican campaign for Ohio Governor.
And any Republican who fails to distance themselves from this ad risks taking on water as well.
I have to give Jon Husted credit. He said he would not have run the ad. That was the right response. While he stopped short of outright condemning it, he made his position clear.
Vivek Ramaswamy needs to pivot, and quickly. Stop defending the ad and start talking about his policies, his vision for Ohio, and why he believes he is the better candidate.
If he chooses to double down, I don't see anything good coming from it.
Here's what too many people in politics seem to forget:
Voters don't always elect the most qualified candidate. They often elect the candidate they like, trust, relate to, or even sympathize with.
You can have the strongest résumé, the best policies, and the most impressive background, but none of that guarantees victory if voters don't like what they see or hear.
And when voters believe someone has been treated unfairly, sympathy can become a powerful political force.
Elections aren't won simply by convincing voters that your opponent is worse. They're won by convincing voters that you're better.
That is a lesson every candidate, Republican or Democrat, would be wise to remember.
