1. Using multiple rapes for scoring political points is disgusting. 2. You were a member of the Tory party when the Councillor was. 3. Is this an admission that Reform UK are committing ‘serious criminal behaviour’?

Delighted to hear the announcement of the creation of the Thames Valley devolved region today, made up of Swindon, Oxfordshire and Berkshire. Really proud to have convened the first cross-party meeting of leaders back in 2024 that has led to this moment! #ThamesValley

Devolution is growing out! The government is now in the final stages of agreeing 10 new devolution agreements: Mayoral Strategic Authorities for Devon, Plymouth and Torbay; Hertfordshire; Lancashire; Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland; Stoke and Staffordshire; Surrey; Thames Valley (Oxfordshire, Berkshire and Swindon); and Wessex. A Strategic Authority for Kent and Medway which will be Mayoral if the area’s Local Government Reorganisation outcome is compatible with this and Foundation if not. This adds to Cheshire and Warrington; Cumbria; Sussex and Brighton; Hampshire and Solent; Essex and Norfolk and Suffolk. And a single Foundation Strategic Authority for Cornwall. Well done to all the local leaders and MPs, businesses and partners who have made the case and done the hard work on the ground! #budget26 @mhclg

NEW: We estimate the energy package confirmed by the government this morning could lower inflation by 0.2 percentage points next year. This looks small - but it has real impact on household budgets
Energy support is the right approach for budget - it supports households, lowers inflation, and encourages growth, by taking pressure off the central bank to raise rates. We've crunched the numbers, and think that the total energy package lowers inflation by ~0.2ppts in 2027.
