This is just a snapshot of the largest evangelical denomination in America, but it shows political moderates are leaving at a 40% higher level than the overall rate of leaving. Moderates are the group leaving at the highest rate. And honestly? I get it. 5/5

Recently a friend I’ve known since kindergarten described me as a “very pure hearted kid who found loving Jesus easy but feeling ‘normal’ in the world very hard” and my goodness I don’t think any description of me has ever resonated so much.

Can I be honest for a minute? I love Jesus. I love my church. Seeing all these deification posts about our former president makes me want to not be associated with church at all. The posts aren’t even coming from people at my church either. 1/2

But if I’m honest? I don’t want to. I’m so tired of trying. It’s been eight years of this heretical political deification and I’m exhausted by it. (4/4 - unless I think of more to say which is totally possible at this point)

Oh! Let me add this: I’m okay if people vote for the guy. I disagree with them but that’s okay - we don’t have to agree politically to follow Jesus together. It’s the deification and intention cognitive dissonance that is so dang exhausting to me.
