Big game in Provo this weekend! Maybe the biggest since the 1990 Miami game!
Bryan May (Dad) was a junior offensive guard on the 1990 BYU team. Their offensive line featured some studs, a couple who went on to have great pro careers. The morning of the game he was sitting at home watching coverage of the pregame when the talking heads said that the key to this game could very well be if guard Bryan May was able to handle Russell Maryland, All American, eventual Outland Trophy winner and #1 overall draft pick in ‘91.
Well, Detmer threw for 406 yards and 3 TDs, total offense was 474 yards behind that offensive line. Dad obviously did alright that night and Detmer went on to win the Heisman that year!
Dad passed in 2007, but if he were here I’m sure we’d be in the stadium together this Saturday cheering on the Cougs as they take on Notre Dame! I don’t know if there’s a lot of active current BYU players on here, but if there are some and they see this post, this weekend is your chance to be a part of history! Go be Bryan! Give your kids something to brag about 40 years later on X!
