An American politician offering chocolate cookies to children in Greenland, if they come home to visit him ... Trump certainly knows how to pick his friends.

Texas: 20% of Republicans under 45 voted for Talarico (per Voter Poll). 9% among over 45.
In 2024, 10% of Democrats under 45 voted for Trump (per my CES analysis). 3% among over 45.
Welcome to the new normal: Younger generations are less firmly attached to partisanship.

So many GOP lawmakers have quietly admitted to me (and others) their hatred of Trump's tariffs, govt equity stakes, and debt.
Now in the minority - and with Trump an unpopular lame duck - it would be a good time to team up with Dems to kill the tariffs by a veto-proof margin.

Tuesday night was the end of the Trump era — all that remains is watching the rubble bounce and trying to pick up the pieces.

“The MAGA core still exists, but it has shrunk as Trump’s policies have failed in their own terms, and as the wealth of his friends and family has expanded in the manner of an African kleptocracy.
There is a gap in the American market for a party that stands for limited government, the rule of law and the principles of the nation’s founding.
Both main parties at present seem to want to mobilise the full coercive power of the state against people they dislike. Both elevate outcome over process. Both are inclined to treat election results as contingent unless they win.
Americans deserve better. Theirs is the world’s greatest republic, designed to be ‘a government of laws, not of men’.”

Clinton, Bush, and Obama all acknowledged the voters rejecting them in midterms. Trump, instead, held a ballroom press conference and is now on social media blaming the voters.

I'd love to speak to the MAGA political consultant that put together the focus group that said Thom Tillis and John Cornyn needed to be jettisoned from the GOP or Lindsey Graham's sister was ready to run for the senate.

The day before the Iran war started, Trump's approval according to the RCP average was a quite low 43.1%, not a "historically successful" rating by any means.
By election day, it was 39.1%, a decline, but the 43.1% was already terrible, and there is no reason to attribute the additional 4% solely to Iran, given, e.g., voters' expressed concern with rampant self-dealing and corruption.
Marc Thiessen is the Anthony Fauci of 2026. Trump was on a glide path to the most successful presidency in modern history, and Thiessen rolled in, fed him a bunch of lies, destroyed his approval ratings with neocon forever war nonsense, and left him with a smoking crater where Republicans used to be standing.

Most of what happened this election was Republicans not showing up to vote.
Caution for Ds: That's a we're-unhappy-with-our-president phenomenon among Rs with a Jan 2029 expiration date.
Replying to @davidshor
This was a *very* good turnout environment. It was the largest turnout differential between Dems and Rs that we've seen in at least the last decade.
In GA and TX counties where we have individual-level vote history, 56% of Harris voters turned out vs. 47% of Trump voters.

This is tremendous from @DavidAFrench and reflects the anger & betrayal so many people have felt under Trump. I'm often critical of presidential policies, but this is the first time in my life that my government seemed to truly hate its own citizens.
