Every young person deserves the chance to build a healthy, hopeful future. This Red Ribbon Week, I encourage Marylanders to talk with the young people in their lives about the risks of drug use and remind them that support is always within reach. By listening, building trust, and making prevention a shared responsibility, we can help our youth make informed choices and pursue their dreams.

A little international flair and a lot of horsepower in Prince George’s County! It was wonderful to welcome diplomats from around the world to Embassy Night at the Washington International Horse Show, celebrating Maryland’s rich equestrian heritage and the connections that bring us together across cultures and borders. Maryland is proud to host this world-class competition and showcase an industry that is such an important part of our state's history, economy, and identity.

Innovation and immigration have always gone hand in hand. From the businesses we build to the discoveries that change our lives, immigrants have helped make America a global leader. At @UofMaryland Global Talent Summit, we brought together employers, students, and immigration experts to tackle the uncertainty facing international talent and the businesses that depend on them. The next great idea could be sitting in a Maryland classroom right now. We need to make sure it has the opportunity to grow right here.

I was honored to join Speaker Joseline Peña-Melnyk, faith leaders, and community partners to welcome Sister Norma Pimentel to Annapolis. For more than two decades, Sister Norma Pimentel has led Catholic Charities of the Rio Grande Valley, providing food, shelter, and care to more than 100,000 migrants. Today, her work continues to support elderly, food-insecure, and unhoused neighbors, rooted in a commitment to leaving no one behind. As immigrants, Speaker Peña-Melnyk and I understand the importance of finding welcome and belonging in a new place. Sister Pimentel's work reminds us to lead with dignity and ensure everyone has access to care and support. Especially in uncertain times, we must continue building relationships with Maryland’s Latino, Catholic, and immigrant communities and working together to ensure every Marylander feels welcomed and supported.

Maryland’s schools give us so much to be proud of. Congratulations to our 23 Maryland Blue Ribbon Schools for 2026–2027, and to the students, educators, staff, and families whose hard work made this recognition possible. These school communities’ commitment to academic excellence shows what we can accomplish together and inspires us to keep building a brighter future for every Maryland student.

Government cannot design the workforce of the future sitting in a room by itself. Today, we heard directly from cybersecurity and technology leaders about how their work is changing, the barriers they face in developing talent, and where Maryland can be a stronger partner. These discussions help guide our workforce investments and identify opportunities to build training and career pathways together. By working closely with industry, we can prepare more Marylanders to succeed as technology and workforce needs evolve.

A few weeks ago at TiECON East in Boston, I saw firsthand the power of bringing entrepreneurs together to share ideas, make connections, and help one another succeed. Now we're bringing that energy home! Great to join business leaders, innovators, and investors as we work to establish a Maryland chapter of TiE. Maryland has no shortage of talent or big ideas. By connecting the right people and opening doors for one another, we can turn those ideas into thriving businesses.

After four long years, the Veditz Building at the Maryland School for the Deaf is open again! It was wonderful to celebrate this exciting new chapter with students, educators, and the entire MSD community. This incredible space is about more than classrooms and technology. It's about giving students the freedom to explore their passions, discover their talents, and spread their wings. The future is bright at MSD!

Every one of us has a story. And somewhere in that story is a teacher. Public school teachers helped write my American story. Today, Maryland’s educators are helping write countless more. Thank you for the futures you make possible. 🍎🎓✏️

Happy birthday to the United States Navy! I’m grateful to the sailors who serve around the world, the veterans who carried that mission before them, and the families who support them through every deployment and homecoming. On Indigenous Peoples Day, we honor the rich history, cultures, and contributions of Indigenous peoples in Maryland and across the nation. Today is a time to celebrate Indigenous voices, reflect on the injustices of the past, and recommit ourselves to building a future where every community is seen, heard, and respected.

Congratulations to Michael James of Harford County Public Schools, Maryland’s 2027 Teacher of the Year! Tonight, we celebrated 24 extraordinary educators who show up every day to inspire, encourage, and shape the next generation. As someone who came to this country at seven years old and learned English with the help of my public school teachers, I know firsthand how much a great teacher can change a child’s life. Congratulations to Mr. James, our six other finalists, and all 24 honorees. Maryland is grateful for you!

Nurses are the heartbeat of Maryland's healthcare system. Every day, they lead with compassion, advocate for patients, and make our communities healthier and stronger. It was an honor to join the Maryland Nurses Association for its 123rd Annual Convention and celebrate the incredible people behind this work. From investing in our nursing workforce to expanding pathways into the profession, the Moore-Miller Administration is committed to taking care of those who take care of us.

Innovation must go hand in hand with protecting Marylanders. Governor Moore and I believe local communities should decide whether to welcome data centers, with strict state environmental standards, local hiring, and requirements that data centers pay their own infrastructure and energy costs without passing them on to consumers. As AI advances, we must also put safeguards in place to protect our personal information and our children, ensuring this technology serves Marylanders responsibly.

“We’ll continue to push to make sure that we put money into mental health services.” Mental health care should never be out of reach for anyone who needs it. Investing in mental health means investing in healthier families, stronger communities, and a better future for Maryland. Thank you to The Towerlight for highlighting this important conversation. thetowerlight.com/lt-gov-aru…
