Low-impact habits don't stop with summer trail season. Wet ground, dispersed wildlife, and shorter days change what responsible looks like, but the responsibility itself doesn't go anywhere.
Fall doesn't warn you before it changes. Daylight shortens, temps drop fast, and weather turns quicker than summer trips have you used to. A few extra minutes of planning keeps you and the terrain out of a bad spot.
One shortcut off the trail doesn't feel like much. Multiply that by every hiker who takes the same shortcut through wet fall ground, and you've got a new trail that didn't need to exist.
Fall is a crowded season on the landscape. Hikers, hunters, and migrating wildlife are all using the same corridors at the same time. A little awareness of who else is out there (and why) goes a long way.
Fall trails look forgiving. Cooler ground, fewer crowds, soft light. But recovery slows down as temperatures drop, so damage from off-trail travel or new social trails sticks around into spring. What you do this month has more staying power than it looks like.
You don't need a permit, a group, or a plan. Next time you're out and you see something that shouldn't be there, pick it up. That's it. That's the whole system.
One person picking up trash is good. A group doing it together is how it actually adds up fast. Find a local cleanup, bring a friend, or start your own. Stewardship gets easier — and more fun — when you're not doing it alone.
The trail you're on today is what someone else sees tomorrow. What you do with your trash, your noise, your group size — that's what they walk into. Stewardship isn't about fixing what's broken. It's about not breaking it in the first place.
Come learn. Come help. Come connect. Come Leave No Trace.

Picking up trash that isn't yours feels small in the moment. It's not. Every piece you grab is one less thing in the water, one less thing an animal finds first. Stewardship isn't a special event, it's what you do on a normal Tuesday hike.
We’re doing something big this September with our friends at @Mountain Hardwear. Stay tuned.

What's left behind doesn't stay behind. Wind moves it, rain moves it, wildlife eats what they shouldn't. That wrapper you meant to grab on the way back? Grab it now. Pack out everything you packed in, including food scraps.
Stewardship doesn’t have to start with something big.
Pick up one piece of trash. Leave a trail a little better than you found it. Take one small action to care for the places we all share.
One piece. One small action. Multiplied by all of us.
It adds up. 🌎
#LeaveNoTrace
We all enjoy the outdoors differently, but we share a responsibility to respect others.
Keep noise down. Give others space. Yield on the trail. Keep pets under control.
Different users. Shared responsibility. Protect the experience.

Your dog might be great off-leash. The problem is nobody else on the trail knows that — not the family with a toddler, not the hiker with a dog reactive to others, not the deer bedded down thirty feet off the path. A leash closes that gap for everyone, including your pup.
Nobody's born knowing how to pack out trash or stick to the trail. Every kid picks it up from someone walking right next to them. That someone could be you.
