Day two of the Spartan Bus Tour in southern Michigan ✅ We visited the Southwest Michigan Research and Extension Center, Preston Farms, Michigan International Speedway, Hidden Lake Gardens and the Croswell Opera House, along with a historic home in Vandalia.
A police dog critically injured hundreds of miles from East Lansing can now be flown to MSU for specialized emergency veterinary care through a new statewide air transport program for canine officers, thanks to a new MSU partnership called Spartan Shield.
Spartan Shield is Michigan’s first emergency air transport program designed to connect critically ill or injured public safety working dogs with advanced veterinary care.
This effort places MSU among a small but growing number of veterinary and air medical teams nationally that are developing dedicated emergency transport options for working dogs. go.msu.edu/6yx5

Have you spotted something new in our red panda habitat? Last week, we installed a canopy bridge as part of an AZA SAFE Red Panda conservation study!
Potter Park Zoo and other AZA-accredited zoos are testing different bridge designs to learn how red pandas use these connections. The findings could help conservationists connect fragmented habitats in the eastern Himalayas, making it easier for red pandas to move safely through their native range.
Over the next month, our team will monitor the bridge and document how our red pandas interact with it. We’re excited to see what we learn!
A special thank you to @MSUBikes for donating recycled bicycle rims to help make this project possible. By repurposing materials locally, we're turning something old into a new opportunity for conservation!
It's one more example of how collaboration, creativity and a little ingenuity can help inspire conservation of animals and the natural world.
Best in the world. 🏆
MSU has five academic disciplines in top 20 globally, according to a new ranking, and 17 among the top 100.

New MSU research finds that popular music is losing its emotion. The study is the largest of its kind to analyze song lyrics.
MSU's study found that lyrics became less emotional and less socially focused over time. Within artists’ careers, both positive and negative words declined, as did references to family and friends. go.msu.edu/dyx5
