Turin, Italy: over 20,000 people chant "Turin is ours" while lighting fires in the main square. Chaos, smoke, and disorder in the heart of the city. This isn't Italy. This isn't peace. This is what they call a "peaceful protest".
This is Rome, Italy - a massive pro-Palestine demonstration. They claim to be for human rights, but you will never hear a single condemnation of Hamas in this crowd. It's always the same: they march for Gaza, but never against those who use Gaza as a terrorist base. This is supporting terrorism with a smile. They don't say it openly, they do it indirectly. And they know it perfectly well.

David Bentley Hart is a man of overwhelming gifts and unpredictable judgements. He will speak of Japanese ink painting, of Gregory of Nyssa, of the Apocalypse of John, with the same fluency, and then say something about politics or church history that makes his most devoted readers wince. He is idiosyncratic. That is fine. Beauty, as he taught a generation of theologians, is always particular, and nothing is more particular than a genius. #beauty #aesthetics #architecture #theology

Locking up Călin #Georgescu isn't just excessive. It's stupid.
Tuesday night, a miniature #Romania gathered outside the Central Detention Facility in Bucharest.
Tricolor flags. Angry people. Silent icons. Eyes full of tears. Riot police behind steel barricades. Frantic reporters, exhausted cameramen, and bored technicians behind the windows that, for one second, framed the silhouette of Călin Georgescu.
Far from the noise of the street, the system's elites popped the expensive bottles and celebrated "the arrest of the Guru," the sneering nickname the establishment press pinned on Georgescu.
Their joy did not come from reading the indictment. It did not come from some revelation about the dialectic of Crime and Punishment. Not even close.
The Germans have a word for it: Schadenfreude. Before we explain it, let’s recap.
The leader of the populist movement now sits in a jail cell. Georgescu won the first round of Romania's presidential election in November 2024, and then the Constitutional Court annulled the entire vote.
Now he has been arrested. The measure is not merely excessive. Above all, it is dumb.
So ask yourself: does jailing Georgescu solve a single problem Romanians actually have?
Does it kill the monstrous #inflation?
Does it bring down the obscene prices at the pump?
Does it rescue the Romanian government from its dizzying spiral of borrowing?
Of course not.
So why the champagne?
The explanation is simple: sadistic pleasure at your neighbor's pain.
A brilliant philosopher named René Girard taught us something vital.
Societies in crisis do not calm down through public debate. They calm down by violently discharging their rage.
Social hell goes looking for a single culprit, and it does not look rationally.
By social hell I mean poverty, failure, impotence, exhaustion, frustration, and exasperation.
Consider what Romania has been through.
The #pandemic.
The costly support for the war in Ukraine.
The cancelled election of 2024.
The economic collapse of 2025–2026.
After all that, the "pro-European" Romanians needed an explanation for the political swamp and the economic wreckage.
The propaganda machine rushed to help. It pointed, obsessively, at "hybrid warfare" and some vague "Russian interference." All of it, supposedly, came down to "the Georgescu factor."
And so, before our very eyes, the scapegoat mechanism was born.
Romania has long fought a war against itself, Romanian against Romanian. It was a tribal feud.
That war is back, now as a collective lynching of Georgescu's nationalists.
No nuance.
No shades of gray.
No interpretive subtlety.
No pluralism of ideas.
Until now, only the media persecuted the sovereigntist leader.
As of today, the courts persecute him too, in flesh and blood.
A Romania split into warring tribes cannot find its common denominator.
Who profits from this fanaticism of hate?
I'm asking.

Traditional churches are painted within. The mosaics of Ravenna, the frescoes of Mistra and Athos, the icons of Novgorod — all belong to the interior, to the space of the liturgy, the dim cave of the Kingdom. Elsewhere in Christendom one finds painted porches, carved portals, exterior enclaves of mosaic. Nowhere else does one find what emerged in Moldavia in the first half of the sixteenth century: a complete and systematic covering of every façade with an articulated theological program. @PageauJonathan #moldova

🇷🇴 Romanian conservative leader Simion just told Romania’s president that AUR (his party) IS READY TO RUN the country, not heckle it.
He walked out of talks with Nicușor Dan and said his party will not vote for any cabinet it does not sit in.
After months of drift he wants a government that can last four years, and if parliament cannot build one he wants another election.
No ministries have been carved up and no prime minister has been named.

The oldest text in our inheritance says it in one line, repeated seven times. At the end of each day, God saw that ‘it was good’; at the end of the whole work, ‘very good’. The word carries goodness, beauty, and fittingness together, and it cannot be split without violence. To be in your proper place is to lead a fulfilled existence. From this follows a rule that every craftsman once knew in his hands: a man who knows the world was made well is not permitted to work badly, because to work inadequately is to contradict the condition of the creature. Beauty is structure, not accident. It is not added to the world. It is the way the Maker shows Himself in what He made.

🇷🇴 GREAT TO CATCH UP WITH MIHAIL NEAMȚU IN DUBROVNIK
Always a pleasure to spend time with my friend @mihailneamtu — a proud Romanian patriot, Member of Parliament for AUR and President of the Committee for Culture in Romania’s House of Deputies.
Mihail is a strong voice for faith, freedom, national identity and the preservation of Europe’s cultural heritage.
It was excellent to see him again at the conference in Dubrovnik and to have the opportunity to catch up properly.
I have a great deal of respect for Mihail and the work he continues to do in Romania and beyond.
Europe needs people who are prepared to defend their history, culture, sovereignty and values with confidence.
Always good to see you, my friend.
