Every parent wants their child to be safe.
Molly vs The Machines lays bare the urgent need to fix the faulty design choices causing harm online. But we also know many parents watching will be asking: what can I do right now?

Anyone who saw Social Reckoning last week would have incredible doubts as to the veracity of the messages coming from Meta about suspending the key organizing account for democracy fifteen days before the elections.
This shouldn’t happen to either party. It needs accountability.
We have continued to dig into the root cause here and would like to offer an update.
Our engineering team discovered that the spike that triggered the incorrect enforcement was primarily in the account’s “reading” behavior. Specifically, our network security systems detected the use of a Claude tool reading profiles, posts, and hashtags, the rate of which sharply increased (~4x volume) in intense bursts on October 17.
These abrupt, high-volume, sequential requests in a short period resembled automated bot traffic rather than an ordinary human browsing our systems. This activity caused our automated protections to incorrectly take the No Kings Instagram account offline. An automated re-review of the removal action an hour later recognized that shouldn’t have happened and restored the account. It unfortunately took additional time for us to straighten out the situation with admin access to the IG account.
We want to reiterate our sincere apology for the error.

What a disgraceful move by TikTok. It’s now put itself in the same category as this platform and Musk himself.
Just purchased my ticket to see it Tuesday evening.

%$&*!!! whoa.
This reads that Meta is looking to grant itself the rights to scrape websites across the open web - and train Meta's AI - once a company uses Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp or other Meta services after October 30, 2026. So every biz.
Read that again. Outrageous. 1/5

New suicide figures have been published by @ONS: 5,738 suicides were registered for England in 2025.
75% were in men. 1 in 65 men die by suicide.
And in the details: a politically sensitive concern, a small encouragement & an important point no media have mentioned.

We should not be celebrating technology that can deceive people and blur the distinction between what's real and what's fake!
It should be illegal -- plain and simple -- for any AI to impersonate a human being without a clear and visible disclaimer that it is, in fact, AI.
Introducing Griffin, the first model to pass the video Turing test.
48% of people who talked to it live thought it was a real human. Previous systems have had a pass rate <3%. It is #1 on NVIDIA's benchmark for full-duplex AI video.
It’s the first Human Interaction Model (HIM).
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
The 48% figure and "video Turing test" claim are from Tavus's own study of 54 one-minute calls, not independently verified or using a standard protocol. Griffin-Lite leads NVIDIA's VideoFDB benchmark on their public leaderboard.

Outsourcing AI regulation to a voluntary "pledge" conceived by Mark Zuckerberg and endorsed by tech CEOs over a private White House lunch is a recipe for disaster.
"Self-regulation" by tech giants is a proven failure. The last time Meta promised to police itself, turned out it was hiding evidence that its platforms actively harm kids. Repeating this mistake with AI leaves the public dangerously exposed.
AI companies are already bound by existing laws, but the White House has generally stopped enforcing laws against the wealthy and powerful. State AGs should step up, halt lawbreaking, and promote real deterrence, including through holding individual executives accountable.
Congress also needs to legislate. We have a long history of regulating risky, transformative industries like banking, pharmaceuticals, and nuclear power. These tools include mandatory testing, truly independent supervision, and break-ups that end conflicts of interest.
Ultimately, reckoning with AI will also require reckoning with our broader crisis of governance. All three branches have become severely deformed. Against this backdrop it might be tempting to outsource regulation to these private actors, but it would be a serious mistake.
Our public institutions must decide the trajectory of these powerful technologies, not the firms whose breakneck pace and financial conflicts brought us here.

Tech self-regulation has proved an abject failure.
So, why would any right-minded person think similar ‘internal controls’ will make AI safe?

This is impressive analysis breaking down all the jury’s findings that Facebook willfully deceived the public about Cambridge Analytica and/or users’ data. Facebook’s bigger win is this is only cash and they’ve mostly delayed away the most damning evidence from public eye. 1/2

Breaking: The jury in New Mexico is about to deliver their verdict on whether @Meta violated state law over its #personaldate policies leading up to #CambridgeAnalytica. Stay tuned! Should be out within the next few minutes.

If we want a better world – stable democracies, the rule of law, a healthy environment, safety for our children and peace – we need information integrity.
For that we must take action.
One thing is clear: no single actor will be able to do the work alone.
As the power of digital tech increases exponentially, it seems no one is quite sure how to make it safe!
Global regulation and global education are two undeniable requirements, there’s really no time to waste.
People outside the AI labs should have a real say in how this technology develops, and a clear way to judge if it's happening safely.
Standards should help prevent the concentration of power, including by making sure new companies and open-model companies can compete.
They should also help countries and companies compare evidence and learn from failures.
We think the US should lead this effort. Here is our proposal:

This is a marvelous thread.
Big Tech is doing everything it can to manufacture despair, to persuade people that they no longer have autonomy.
Don’t let them win.
I saw this post and wanted to address it.
If you look at social media today, you’ll see good, empathetic people admitting they are losing hope. They look at climate change, rising authoritarianism, and corporate greed and feel entirely powerless. If you feel this way, I want

ALT hate to broadcast this on social media, but I know l am not alone when I candidly state that l am losing the will to live. In my 53 years, I have never known a time when I could not locate a semblance of hope until now. It's only a feeling, but an uncomfortable one, one that makes me feel powerless. The future of the planet, genocide, the threat of being ruled and surveilled by tech overlords, the corruption, amorality, the lack of empathy, fascism on the rise globally w/GOP in support.
