“'Us mayors from (places in) New Mexico that are over 200 years old, we encounter things that I guarantee you the mayor of Rio Rancho never encounters,' Romero said. He mentioned cultural traditions that older communities have, as well as historic and political systems such as acequias.
Romero noted how Rio Rancho is a young community, having been initially developed in the 1960s.
'Kudos to the developers who built that city,” Romero said. “But, you know what, we’re 200 years old and we have a lot of issues that I think Deb Haaland and the rest of the Democrats understand. … That’s why we want them representing us.'"

I am calling on Donald Trump to send the requested funds to provide immediate relief for the communities that have been impacted by the flooding this week.
New Mexicans have faced the loss of their homes, ancestral land, and communities.
It is the federal government’s responsibility to provide financial support in times of natural disaster. Trump needs to approve the request immediately so New Mexicans can start to rebuild.
