In another historic development, our sponsored Neurorights bill SB 1223 has officially passed the California Senate with a unanimous vote of 38-0. The state of California joins Chile, Rio Grande do Sul, and Colorado in securing neural data protections!
Grateful to see our efforts to ensure progress and protection go hand-in-hand highlighted in @politico today.

It was an honor for the @Neuro_Rights Foundation to work with our Canadian partners on this historic initiative, which makes Canada the first country in the world to protect neural data as sensitive information. linkedin.com/posts/office-of…
Neural data is uniquely sensitive: it can reveal the most intimate aspects of who we are, and it urgently requires protection. We are proud to have supported Leader @SenSchumer team in shaping the MIND Act, which builds upon consensus and bipartisan efforts by the American Medical Association and states such as California, Colorado, and Montana to safeguard neural data and promote responsible innovation. Importantly, it brings this critical conversation to the U.S. Congress for the first time, representing a landmark step forward to ensure the responsible development and deployment of neurotechnologies.

Earlier this month, the @AmerMedicalAssn unanimously adopted Resolution 503, which narrowly defines neural data according to scientific consensus and supports regulatory efforts to protect its privacy and security. The resolution also stresses the importance of ensuring neural data is not used for discriminatory purposes and that neurotechnology access does not deepen inequalities. We celebrate the leadership of the @AmerMedicalAssn and are pleased to see the largest national association of physicians in the United States clarify what does and does not constitute neural data.

The global neurorights movement continues to gain momentum: NRF's @yusterafa just returned from Uruguay, where he testified in Parliament in support of a neural data protection bill. We look forward to continue working with Uruguay's leadership to advance strong legal protections for neurotechnology users! 🇺🇾
We are thrilled to see Senators Cantwell, Markey, and Schumer call on the Federal Trade Commission to take urgent action to protect consumers' neural data from exploitation and sale, citing our 2024 report on privacy and user rights. The push to safeguard neural data continues to be a bipartisan and consensus effort, following recent legislation passed unanimously or near unanimously in California, Colorado, and Montana.
