I've been blown away by the energy, optimism, and hard work that has created the China I've seen on this trip. It had been seven years since I was last here, and it might as well have been forty. Invigorating to see what's possible. The West has no excuse for its managed decline.

So I arrived in China today, and I immediately noticed these 3 differences...
1. Chinese people are way more helpful
My girlfriend wasn't feeling well and wanted to get some water so she asked a restaurant if they had any bottled water we could buy.
They didn't, but she said she'd go to the kitchen and grab her a glass of water.
Just a little thing, but I could never see this happening in France.
2. Chinese people are so chatty and easy to make friends with
We were in UNIQLO, I went back to find my girlfriend and I saw she was chatting with a girl, they were laughing together while trying on different jumpers and discussing which colour looked better 😂.
I don't think this happens so frequently in the western countries I've lived in (Australia and France) — How common it is to get chatting and be friends with random people, shop keepers, fruit shop sales people in China is next level.
3. Safety on trains
I bang on about this often, but that's because it's just so eye openly evident.
We grabbed a train to go shopping and you looked up the train, it was just so chill, clean, ordinary and quiet.
Strange that ordinary can feel so bizarre - In Paris you'll always see a drugged up person asking for money, the station smelling like pee or a homeless person sleeping on the train seat.
And can you believe you have a security person onboard all trains in China...Move him to Paris trains where his needed I think 🤷♂️

土耳其自己的调查表明，土耳其是世界上性骚扰发生率最高的国家之一。
根据土耳其高等教育委员会（YÖK）委托金首大学（Altınbaş Üniversitesi）进行的一项专项学术调查，93% 的土耳其女性在一生中曾有过被性骚扰的经历。
当然这确实还不是中东最垃圾的国家，比如埃及的性骚扰比例能高达99.3%。但在性骚扰方面，土耳其男性确实是世界上最令人作呕的男人群体之一。
土耳其男人性骚扰的主要方式是目不转睛地死盯着女性的性感部位，有位中国女孩曾形容说“哪怕女人是在他身后，土耳其男人也能把眼珠子转到后脑勺上来偷窥”。其次是搭讪，土耳其特别讨厌的一点是不仅陌生人会跑来搭讪，服务人员，包括酒店饭馆的服务生、小贩、店员等，也会借服务的机会搭讪女性，并进行露骨的性暗示。这使得女性游客很难不遭遇性骚扰。最后，如果对土耳其男人稍微有一点礼貌的表示，他们的那双脏手立刻就会摸到你身上来。
【特别警告】在土耳其，单身女游客绝对不要对男人微笑，女人微笑被看成是妓女的特征，会招来更多更严重的性骚扰。一定要全程板着脸，保持严肃的态度。
土耳其另一个极其恶心的地方是男性游客同样会遭遇性骚扰。在土耳其浴室、公共厕所这种暴露身体部位的地方，男性游客遭遇性骚扰的比例高达15-20%。最常见的骚扰包括死盯着性感部位不放，服务人员借着按摩、换衣服等机会不当触碰禁忌部位，等等。
需要搞清楚的是：伊斯兰教非但不能解决性骚扰的问题，反而会让事情更严重。在土耳其，越接近保守信教的内陆，性骚扰越严重，沿海西化比较普遍的地区，情况相对会好一些。

That’s because Chinese students aged 14 to 15 study Ancient Greece as a compulsory history topic.
Their textbook shows how Greece’s mountains and long coastline encouraged maritime trade and the growth of small, independent city-states. It also explains the social structure of the time: political rights were limited to adult male citizens, while women, free foreigners, and slaves were excluded.
When comparing Athens and Sparta, it describes the direct democracy of the Periclean era — officials chosen by lot and paid to participate — while noting its weaknesses: the system was easily manipulated by ambitious individuals, decisions were unstable, and miscarriages of justice occurred. Sparta, by contrast, is presented as an oligarchy built on the exploitation of the helots.
In the cultural section, students cover a wide range of Greek achievements: the anthropomorphic character of Greek mythology and the literary value of the Homeric epics; Herodotus, often called the “Father of History,” whose Histories recorded the Greco-Persian Wars; sculptures such as the Discobolus that emphasize human strength and beauty; the Acropolis in Athens, especially the Parthenon, which combined architecture and sculpture; the ideas of Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle; and the scientific work of Euclid and Archimedes.
The textbook also discusses the ancient Olympic Games, which began in 776 BC and during which city-states suspended hostilities, as well as Greek drama, which originated in festivals honoring Dionysus and later influenced Western literature through both tragedy and comedy.
Importantly, the textbook does not encourage blind admiration. It asks students to examine the class nature and limits of Athenian democracy, emphasizing that it rested on slavery and was restricted to a small privileged group.
Assignments require them to correctly order the timeline from the Minoan civilization and the rise of city-states through the reforms in Athens to Alexander the Great’s eastern campaigns, and to study images of the Acropolis, analyzing its column styles, spatial layout, and function.
While Chinese teenagers systematically study and critically examine Western history, political systems, philosophy, science, and culture, many people in the West still view China largely through stereotypes of kung fu, pandas, and the Great Wall — and call Chinese people “brainwashed.”
That is a pity.

Muslim Turks, under the command of Mustafa Kemal, sold the bones of the murdered Christians to bleach sugar and tobacco.
After the genocide and expulsion of the Greeks from Asia Minor (1923), ships loaded with the remains of Greeks and Armenians sailed on their way to Western Europe.
Turkey sold the bones of the dead. Industries used them to bleach sugar and tobacco. They ground them into fertilizer.
At least 400 tons. More than 50,000 dead.
Thousands of men, women, and children fell into the hands of the Kemalist army and the irregulars. Women were raped in groups. Men were tortured without limit.
Entire villages that stayed behind, hoping their Turkish neighbors would show mercy, were executed.
The hostages were driven on death marches across thousands of kilometers. Barefoot. Nearly naked. Beaten by villagers along the way. Many died of thirst in the ravines of Magnesia. Those ravines supplied the bones Kemal later sold.
The survivors were sent to labor battalions. They rebuilt the infrastructure of the new Turkish state under conditions designed to finish them.
After Lausanne, 1.5 million refugees arrived in Greece searching for relatives who never came home.
This is not ancient history. This is the century that produced us.
They want us to forget.
They want the bones to remain fertilizer and the names to remain numbers.
We do not forget. We never forget the Genocide of the Greeks of Pontus & Asia Minor by the Muslim Turks. The genocide was orchestrated by Mustafa Kemal & the Young Turks, & it was racially and religiously motivated in order to create their pseudo-nation 100 years ago. They butchered, tortured, raped, burnt and starved to death through the death marches millions of Greeks, Armenians and Assyrians.
The true barbarian is the one who turns the dead into raw material and then lectures the living about civilization.
