The average UK household has 15 unused cables stored away.
These cables contain resources such as copper. Copper is 100% recyclable, and recycling it uses up to 85% less energy than mining new copper.
By recycling old cables, you can help conserve resources, reduce energy use, and support a more sustainable future.
Unwanted cables and wires can be taken to your nearest Household Waste Recycling Centre where they can be properly recycled.

We've faced a loss of more than £40 million in Government funding over the past two financial years.
At the same time, costs and demand for services have continued to rise significantly.
Pressures include support for children and young people, particularly those with special educational needs or disabilities.
We want to hear your views on what you think our spending priorities should be, what council tax levels should be, and which local services matter most to you.

This is an important milestone in completing the remaining connections and fully opening the road.
- Friday 6 November: Church Hill is due to reopen.
- Monday 9 November to Friday 13 November: The A59 will be closed each night from 7pm to 6am between Bolton Abbey roundabout and Menwith Hill crossroads. A signed diversion will be via Ilkley and Otley. Local access will be maintained where possible, but the access route available to individual properties will change as work moves between locations. Local residents affected have been sent further details.
- Monday 16 November to Thursday 19 November: Church Hill and Hall Lane junctions with the A59 will be closed during the day for final surfacing. The A59 will remain open to vehicles during this work.
- Friday 20 November to Friday 27 November: The A59 will be closed each night from 7pm to 6am between Bolton Abbey roundabout and Menwith Hill crossroads. A signed diversion will be in place via Ilkley and Otley.
Please allow extra time for journeys and follow the signed diversion.
The programme is weather-dependent and dates may need to change at short notice if conditions are unsuitable.

As Bonfire Night approaches, we're encouraging residents to celebrate safely and responsibly so everyone can enjoy themselves without avoidable injuries, fires or antisocial behaviour.
The safest way to enjoy fireworks is at an organised display. Anyone planning a celebration at home should follow the Firework Code, buy fireworks from reputable retailers, keep them in a closed box and use them one at a time.
Find out more about firework safety, including the law and the Firework Code, at: northyorks.gov.uk/news/2026/…
Domestic abuse can affect anyone, regardless of gender, age, sexual orientation, or background - including men.
According to the ManKind Initiative, only 1 in 23 victims accessing local specialist domestic abuse services are male. By raising awareness, we hope to encourage more men to come forward, speak out, and access the help they deserve.
If you are concerned about your own relationship or worried about someone you know, help and support is available at northyorks.gov.uk/domestic-a…
