This is the exact thing we’ve been warning about for years… AI agents with unrestrained access to your bank account and protected information. When consumer AI agents are accessing YOUR bank account or using YOUR credit card, they must be subject to fiduciary-like duties of care. We need to pass my AI AGENTS Act to get some basic guardrails in place.
SCOOP: Major U.S. banks are detecting unauthorized third-party AI agents inside customer accounts, including some attempting to take actions that appear to be independent of user instructions, sources told Axios. The findings have alarmed banking executives, who are racing to restrict access to their systems as AI moves at a velocity faster than financial institutions can respond, multiple industry and bank executives told Axios. Several banks are now preparing for worst-case and even “day after” scenarios, including how to rapidly secure or restore customer accounts if things go wrong, the people said. Several bank executives told Axios they're struggling to distinguish between human users and AI agents. One executive said banks also struggle to determine whether agents are authorized by customers or potentially operating without their permission, more akin to rogue agent behavior. Read my latest for Axios here: axios.com/2026/10/22/ai-agen…

Starlink has become critical military infrastructure. But it remains under the control of Elon Musk, a billionaire who can decide who gets access and on what terms. That's far too much power for one private company (& CEO) to wield. New from @MaxvonThun: substack.com/home/post/p-221…

There is something deeply wrong with a political system that allows one trillionaire to buy his own personal U.S. Senator.

"Surveillance pricing functions like a hidden tax on the entire economy." Surveillance pricing can make prices higher and less predictable, harming consumers and local businesses. @Pat_Garofalo testifies before the DC City Council on the need to ban it.

Great chart from Slok. Everybody knows that a very small % off companies are consuming the lion's share of token consumption What's interesting is that of those top 1% of spenders, they're overwhelmingly VC-backed companies. May have implications if VC-funding starts to slow.

A new Senate investigation finds "none of the seven [Big Tech] companies would agree to a standard that would require them to pay for the building of new power infrastructure that would not have been needed if not for their data centers." Big Tech refuses to pay its fair share!

Meta is essentially saying they will control not only their own users' IP to make and maintain AI products, but also any IP a Meta user "makes available." This should raise alarm to all regulators about Big Tech's abuse-of-dominance tactics using AI development as a pretext.

"By our count, the party’s top House super PAC has run more than 60 populist-themed ads over the past two months. The DCCC, DSCC and Senate Majority PAC are pushing versions of the same message in their own ads and red-box guidance too."
