Gent in purple, "State pensioners who have contributed their whole lives are on a lot less than minimum wage" "I'm very lucky to have a small German pension, and believe me, it's a lot more than what we pay in this country" "Most of western Europe their pensions are much higher than the state pension in this country" "I'm lucky I get a pension from the military" "But people on the basic state pension, I reall feel sorry for them" My view: The full new State Pension is roughly £12,548 a year. Someone working 37.5 hours a week on the £12.71 minimum wage earns about £24,785 before tax. That puts the full new State Pension at barely half a full-time minimum-wage salary. Government figures show that 12% of pensioner families received their income entirely from the State Pension and other state benefits in 2024/25. That same year, around 1.7 million pensioners — one in seven — were living in relative poverty after housing costs. A better pension means being able to heat your home, eat properly and see friends without calculating what you’ll have to go without afterwards. It also means money spent in the communities where pensioners live. After a lifetime of working, caring and contributing, financial security should be something people can expect.

All 43 of my @PrivateEyeNews Letby columns are here. Many neonatal experts believe there is no evidence of murder, & clear evidence of more plausible causes of collapse and death. However, these arguments should have been made by experts at her trial. Why weren’t they? private-eye.co.uk/special-re…
All 32 of my @PrivateEyeNews columns on Lucy Letby are available here. She was never observed harming a baby, the forensic evidence against her is very poor and experts of far higher standing than those who gave evidence at her trial have concluded that all of the deaths and collapses can be understood without any need for deliberate harm. However, it is clear some of the babies received very substandard care. The @ccrcupdate has had 10 months to consider whether to refer her case back to the appeal court. If it delays its decision beyond a year, I think anonymized expert reports from both sides should be placed in the public domain, starting with the insulin cases. And experts on both sides should be invited to meet and debate the glaring differences in their reports. @VeraBaird private-eye.co.uk/special-re…

Among those species is human. So far there hasn’t been sustained human-to-human transmission, but if we keep giving the virus chances, it is just a matter of time. 13/13 telegraph.co.uk/global-healt…

Witkoff and Kushner want to “expand the problem” beyond Ukraine to encompass European security architecture (a core demand of Putin) while Rubio tries to shrink it to not even Ukraine but a piece of Ukrainian territory.
