Just because you know sports marketing doesn’t mean you know soccer marketing.
Soccer is different.
The fans. The rivalries. The traditions. The culture.
What works for the NFL or NBA doesn’t translate to MLS, Liga MX, the Premier League, or the NWSL.
And as more brands invest in soccer, the people who truly understand those differences will become increasingly valuable.
In this week’s @pathway_hq newsletter, I break down why soccer knowledge is its own skill, and how you can build the expertise that sets you apart.

Women’s soccer has me excited.
Because it reminds me of MLS 20 years ago.
The infrastructure is growing. The investment is coming. The audience is getting bigger.
And there’s still time to get involved before the opportunity becomes obvious to everyone.
With the 2027 Women’s World Cup in Brazil and the 2031 tournament coming to the U.S., the runway ahead is enormous.
In this week’s @pathway_hq newsletter, I break down why the women’s game could be one of the biggest career opportunities in soccer, and how to position yourself now.
The momentum is building. Now is the time to get involved.

For those that weren’t already paying attention, the World Cup made soccer impossible to ignore.
What comes next is the hard part.
There’s no longer one massive event for every brand to rally around. Instead, there’s MLS, NWSL, USL, national teams, creators, youth soccer, European leagues, local clubs, and so much more.
The opportunity is everywhere.
And that’s exactly what makes having a clear strategy so important.
In this week’s @pathway_hq newsletter, I break down why the next phase of soccer’s growth will be about knowing who you want to reach, what you want to accomplish, and where you need to be.
Riding the World Cup wave was obvious and kind of easy, but building something that lasts is where the real opportunity is.

This is pretty cool: @LinkedIn has named me one of its September 2026 U.S. Top Voices.
I spend a lot of time talking about where soccer is going, what brands can learn from the sport, and how people can build meaningful careers in this industry.
It’s pretty special to see those conversations recognized.
And it’s even better to be included alongside some other great people from the soccer world, including Radhika Duggal, CMO of @MLS, and James Johnson, CEO & Commissioner of @CPLsoccer.
Soccer has never had more momentum in the U.S., and there are so many interesting stories to tell about the business behind it. It’s an awesome time to be in the sport.
I’m grateful to everyone who reads, comments, asks questions, and makes those conversations better.
A big thank you to the LinkedIn News team for including me!

Getting let go by the Chicago Fire felt like the floor had dropped out.
Looking back, I’m grateful it happened.
That setback gave me the space to reassess what I wanted, double down on what mattered, and eventually launch @NameAndNumber.
I’m not sure I would have taken that leap otherwise.
That’s the thing about career setbacks:
Sometimes what feels like a failure is actually a signal to change direction.
In this week’s @pathway_hq newsletter, I share what getting let go taught me, and how to turn an unexpected setback into your next opportunity.

If you’ve spent 10 or 15 years building a career outside of soccer, you might assume it’s too late to make the jump.
I’d argue the opposite.
The business of soccer has grown up.
Clubs and leagues increasingly need experienced people who understand media, tech, finance, partnerships, data, operations, and more.
In this week’s @pathway_hq newsletter, I break down why your experience outside the sport might actually be your biggest advantage.

Most people prepare for an interview. Few people prepare for everything that happens before it.
The reality is, hiring managers are already forming an impression of you before you ever answer your first question.
They’re looking at things like:
- Your LinkedIn profile
- Your first email
- How quickly you respond
- Whether you’re organized and professional
None of these will guarantee you the job.
But they can absolutely influence whether you get the opportunity.
In this week’s @pathway_hq newsletter, I break down the small details that often make a big difference in the hiring process, and how you can make sure they’re working in your favor.

Sometimes the leap into entrepreneurship isn’t perfectly planned, it’s taken when the moment presents itself.
You don’t need everything figured out, you just need to start, put yourself out there, and let momentum build.

Common Myth: You need connections or years of experience to break into soccer.
Yes, those things can help.
But, what's easy to miss is how much clarity, hard work, and good attitude can open doors.
I always counsel folks who ask:
1 - Understand your value proposition.
2 - Carve out time weekly to connect with people who have the job you want.
3 - Do your research and ask great questions.
4 - Be professionally persistent.
Ask yourself: Who are the folks that are two steps ahead of you? Who are the coordinators, the managers?
Don’t always reach out the C-suite executive.
Today's coordinators and managers are tomorrow's executive leaders.
Reach out with the intent to cultivate a relationship, and not just when you need or want something.
Doing so will open doors down the road.
In this week's newsletter, we tackle the importance of *how* you work.
Spoiler alert: It matters.
We've also got direct links to new job openings with:
