On the eve of Rosh Hashanah we talk with Paul Golin, executive director of the Society for Humanistic Judaism promoting the concept of being Jewish absent a belief in God. Is that even possible? @paulgolin @humanisticjews @JFASD_ORG #RoshHashana #faith #religion
I don’t think I said it as articulately as you make it sound but okay. 😁
.@paulgolin: #Secular people participate in rituals and celebrate religious holidays for nonreligous reasons—community, meaning, comfort, love. “It’s a way of being in relationship with the calendar, but really to be in relationship with other people.”

In a classically Jewish fashion, @paulgolin starts with questions instead of answers. How do we provide meaning and comfort to people?

Thank you to @paulgolin and the @humanisticjews and @JFASD_ORG for a terrific conversation last night about atheism, religious privilege, and my forthcoming book WE OF LITTLE FAITH (@GodinePub). And thank you to everyone who joined us from around the country and the world!

Aaron Boone and Brian Cashman should be fired for this alone.

Many of our affiliated communities organize lunch after Yom Kippur services and have been FOR DECADES. We're a little jealous @gather_DC is getting all the hate! Fast if it provides meaning, don't if it doesn't, but either way, get off your damn high horse.worldisraelnews.com/jewish-d…

And I put my money where my progressive mouth is with a contribution to @yuhline's campaign! Look forward to being represented by you now that Park Slope is in the 10th District.
I fear they'll go after @yuhline on BDS. Nike analogy is okay; liberal Jews I know boycott Chick-fil-A, i.e., are fine using the power of political boycott. Question is, to what end? Leading with your mentioned support for 2-state solution may diffuse.

I also do agree it's a 1st Amendment freedom of speech issue, here's a short piece I co-wrote about it. Politically though, a legal approach is not going to sway anyone on such an emotionally charged issue. (From a PDF of @AmericanAtheist excellent "State of the States 2019" rpt)

"As a Jewish atheist who hates flying" wow never felt so seen. thanks @nberlat. Also, agreed on the unbridled Christian nationalism. nbcnews.com/think/opinion/il…
