Gm from Marfa.
The streets have quieted, the galleries are locked up, and what an incredible weekend it was.
Over the past two years, Iβve experienced just about every event that makes its way through Marfa. Marfa Lights, Agave Fest, Chinati Weekend, Viva Big Bend, Judd, Flying Island, and plenty more. All unique, all bringing something special to this little town.
But Art Blocks takes the cake.
And trust me, this isnβt just my opinion. After countless conversations with locals this weekend, I think itβs safe to say no other group of βtouristsβ π fills Marfa with quite this much positivity, kindness, love, creativity, and BAD ASS ART.
This year I had the privilege of hosting 30 artists at New Star Grocery for Plastic Cactus. Watching @GTSewell @JLArtsphere and @marka_eth get down to business β€οΈ while a 17-foot Tiny Viking rose from the ground @LazerErik , learned new skills, learned a thing or two about minting my own work onchain, wandered through virtual reality @A_Giant_Swan , and got a glimpse into all sorts of corners and portals of the internet I hadnβt yet discovered. From generative art and blockchain to the many new ways artists are creating, sharing, and collecting their work. A whole world of possibilities I knew very little about going into this weekend.
Between the lovely dinners @LeValleyKelly getting to share some of my own work, the dancing, the parties, and the endless conversations and stories, I came away with far more than I expected.
What stands out most, though, is the people. A genuinely remarkable community of humans who seem as interested in lifting one another up as they are in the art itself. Thatβs a rare thing.
A big shoutout to @ArtOnBlockchain @artblocks_io for bringing thisπ₯ to Marfa year after year. Youβve built something special here, and I think I can speak for a lot of locals when I say weβre grateful for it.
Excited to see what the future holds. Until next time!

CryptoPunk #110 and Autoglyph #25 by Larva Labs are now on view at the West Bund Museum in Shanghai, as part of Computer Worlds, an exhibition spanning 70 years of computer art from the Centre Pompidou collection, alongside works by Vera MolnΓ‘r, Manfred Mohr, Herbert Franke, and Cory Arcangel.
Curator Philippe Bettinelli sent me a photograph from the opening: a little kid who ran across the gallery to hug the Punk. He apologized for the terrible photo, but I think this photo perfect.
I recall when the same Punk first went on view at the Centre Pompidou in Paris in 2023. At the time, the curators were a little nervous about how to present CryptoPunks. They were more accustomed to abstract computer art, and Punks were a strange proposition for a museum; they challenged some pretty fundamental assumptions about what art could or should be.
And then a group of teenagers spotted the Punk from across the gallery and ran straight toward it. The curators looked at each other, suddenly reassured. Here was a work they'd spent so much time thinking about how to contextualize, and these kids already had a relationship with it, the Punk quite literally MOVED them.
Three years later, a little kid in Shanghai is doing exactly the same thing. And I love how uncomplicated that response is...kids don't run toward art because they've been told it's important. They run toward something they recognize, something that already feels like part of their world. No explanation of the blockchain, no art history, no discussion of ownership or value. Just the simple pleasure of seeing something you love.
These little 24Γ24 pixel portraits have come a long way since 2017, but the instinct to connect with them remains the same. And maybe that's enough?
