On a lighter ‘note’. Our community choir performing at the Forest Gate Festival this summer. (I’m the one doing a bad Blues Brothers impersonation at the back.) Makes me happy for a moment amid the madness of our frightening world.

Is this the lovely Sami I interviewed for my book? 'Ethnosupremacist'? I feel you have been sadly misinformed. The formation of Israel was the ultimate in decolonisation, and the return to their homeland of a group who have been persecuted for thousands of years. How very sad.

NEW FDA CITIZEN PETITION YOUR VOICE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE! Antidepressant withdrawal needs more research. Millions of people use antidepressants, yet important questions remain about withdrawal: how often it occurs, how severe or prolonged it can be, who is most at risk, and which tapering approaches are best tolerated. The Antidepressant Coalition for Education (@ACE_CoalitionEd) has petitioned the FDA to establish and pay for a national patient registry and require or secure additional studies to address these gaps in knowledge. This petition calls for research that follows patients during and after discontinuation, measures outcomes that matter to patients, and puts people with lived experience at the center of the research process. Better evidence. Better guidance. Fewer preventable harms. Please consider submitting a public comment in support of this petition. There will be an option to submit anonymously. The psychedelic bandwagon continues, despite recognition that the trials are flawed by blinding problems and lack of data on long-term safety. The idea of a new miracle cure is just too tempting. nature.com/articles/d41586-0…

A new analysis argues that the BPD label can reinforce stigma, discredit lived experience knowledge, and pathologize neurodivergence, gender diversity, and culturally different forms of emotional expression. Read here: buff.ly/NEA7OBa #borderlinepersonalitydisorder #bpd

The most disturbing line in this apologism for the Zionism is Racism motion is when Green Party councillor @AlexiDimond speaks of "weaponisation of October the 7th". The implication is that the atrocities committed by Hamas that day could somehow be justified. Otherwise, what would the "non-weaponised" version look like? The Green Party has a fatal blind spot when it comes to recognising and acknowledging the magnitude of horror unleashed on 7 October. That is not to deny the war crimes subsequently committed by Israel and Netanyahu. But the modern day Green Party seems to completely ignore the totalitarian character of Islamism and how, if Islamists had their way, Israel would simply cease to exist. Do Greens have nothing to say about this existential threat to Jews and their homeland? Their Zionism is Racism motion helps to vindicate that extermination project. That's why I've called them the new useful idiots. God forbid they are doing so knowingly instead. When they double down like this it's difficult for them to plead ignorance of antisemitic consequences.

And there you have it, the Green Party tone deaf in extremis, doubling down against this nationally recognised representative organisation... Board of Deputies of British Jews declares Greens to be racist party The Green Party of England and Wales has been declared a racist organisation by the Board of Deputies of British Jews. The Jewish body, which is the largest in the UK, was responding to the "Zionism is racism" policy motion passed at the Green Party's conference earlier this month. Board of Deputies president Phil Rosenberg said a vote passed by 118 votes to one to declare that the Greens had, "by adopting an antisemitic platform, become a racist party". A spokesman for the Greens insisted the party does not discriminate against people who hold Zionist views and said it rejected the Board of Deputies' "characterisation of this motion and our party". They added the decision "will not stop us from speaking out against the genocide in Gaza and pushing for stronger sanctions against the Israeli government and its leaders". Israel has repeatedly denied its actions in Gaza amount to genocide. The motion passed by the Board of Deputies urged other parties not to do deals with the Greens unless they rejected the policy. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/ckx2…

I would say calling Mehdi Hasan a journalist is stretching it a bit. I would go more for racist bigot, as those seem to be his go to phrase for anything he he can't argue with. I would trust Simon Schama's opinion and learned view any day, even if I didn't always totally agree.

I have joined Birmingham Labour colleagues in writing to the Council Leader. Green cabinet members must publicly disown their party’s “Zionism is Racism” motion. If they refuse, the power sharing agreement must end. Standing against racism requires leadership and action. 👇🏽

It’s not an ‘ideology’, all our prayers to Eretz Yisrael have existed for thousands of years: it’s the foundation of Judaism. ‘Zionism’ is not the correct term to describe the racist actions of a few despicable violent settlers in the West Bank. It means self-determination for Jews in their ancestral homeland.

These people you mention are seen as outliers by the vast majority of Jews. 90 percent of Jewish people (probably more) do not agree with them.
