Once again, South Carolina has been ranked 22nd in education choice by the @Heritage Foundation.
Our ESTF statutory limits are cited as the primary factor in our low ranking.

How does the property tax cap in South Carolina work?
The state currently has an assessment cap, but another option is a levy cap.
Find out more below!
Potential tax reform coming to South Carolina?
State Senators met to discuss getting rid of sales tax exemptions to broaden the base, which would allow for a lower rate.
Assessment caps result in unequal tax bills for homeowners, whereas levy limits would restrict the total property tax revenue local governments can collect.
Lawmakers also indicated that there must be spending limits, otherwise there cannot be tax reform.
Keep an eye out for the next subcommittee meeting in November!

South Carolina legislators have been discussing this very issue: how to balance our state's property, income, and sales taxes. The @scpolicycouncil team has been on the ground at the Senate committee's hearings. To find out more, read our latest article: scpolicycouncil.org/broaden_…
“I’m old. I’ve paid my home off,” said Ray Warner, a 72-year-old Akron resident. “Why would I pay property tax?”
Across the country, homeowners are asking the same question and revolting against property taxes at a scale not seen in a half century.

Today's S.C. Senate's tax reform subcommittee has begun!
It's great to see that legislators are discussing how to develop a responsible budget (population growth + inflation).
South Carolina's spending has grown at twice the rate of population + inflation!
SCPC will continue to champion a Responsible Budget and we are glad to see our legislators using the same rhetoric.
.@SamAaronSC, Research Director for the South Carolina Policy Council, said the race for governor will determine the state’s future direction.
“It’s very important to vote,” Aaron said.
“This is going to determine the direction of the state going forward, and I would encourage everybody to refresh up on the candidates and figure out who aligns with what they support.”
It's time to eliminate earmarks to unaccountable nonprofits.
South Carolinians are strapped for cash while earmark recipients abandon promises and close off facilities to the public.
Claw back the money.
Additionally, there needs to be a transparent process for lawmaker-requested earmarks that both House and Senate members participate in.
SCPC has long advocated for legislation that would bring thorough public scrutiny to “community projects”: scpolicycouncil.org/we_need_…

Get ready for a LOT MORE of these stories. We're done with watching citizens and taxpayers get ripped off by our government.
Politicians love to brag about "investing in communities." Far too often, though, these so-called community investments are nothing but special interest scams...
Here's just one example...
