Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) is a traditional Mexican holiday that honors the life and memory of loved ones who’ve passed away. From Nov. 1-2, families welcome their ancestors home for a jubilant reunion featuring colorful Ofrendas (altars), Cempasúchil (marigolds), and offerings of their loved ones favorite foods and drinks.
Celebrate this beautiful tradition at these events happening near BART.
1. @oaklandballetco ‘s Luna Mexicana is more than a performance. It’s one of the Bay Area’s most elaborate and inclusive Día de los Muertos events.
2. Head down to San Jose for Avenida de Altares at the Mexican Heritage Plaza. Explore a community altar gallery, enjoy hands-on art activities, browse the artisanal vendor market, and more.
3. @TheUnityCouncil Visit the tallest Catrina in the US during the Día de los Muertos Festival on Nov. 1. Over 100,000 people will spend the day in Fruitvale experiencing the largest Día de los Muertos event in the Bay.
4. The Tenderloin Street Fair will host live Latin music and Aztec dancers across multiple stages at their free event on Nov. 1
5. Near 24th St Mission at Potrero de Sol Park, Festival of Altars will run from 8am-9pm and include workshops and cultural ceremonies

We couldn't wait to see what Waddell cooked up, and he delivered. Watch the video now and tag us in your own posts featuring BART-themed costumes. Don't worry if they don't have the same bells and whistles -- it's about sharing your love of transit and introducing a bit of whimsy into Spooky Season.
