Criminology has spent decades warning us about the dangers of labeling offenders.
Yet the same discipline seems remarkably comfortable with sweeping, stigmatizing descriptions of police officers.
Hypocrisy, me thinks.

Get thee to a current copy of @ACJS_Today. @Jerry_Ratcliffe has a delicious take on the duplicitous application of language policing over at Criminology. If this pilot thing doesn't work out, he's got a real future with satire.

For the professors, if you are interested in adopting any of my books for my courses, one of the benefits of self-publishing is I can sell my books for however much I want.
I typically give classes coupons to sell it so I make $10 margin. Which means I sell the ebook to your students for $10, and the paperback $30 or $40. (These same books through an academic publisher would be $100 to $200, even for the paperback.)
(French available as well for the Intro python! If interested in translations of the LLM book let me know.)
Exactly 30 years ago I was an exchange student at @UofMaryland - today I revisited campus. I loved every minute of being here and the memories came flooding back. A fantastic place ❤️

BOOK GIVEAWAY: Last week was my birthday. I turned 21 (again...if you round generously).
To mark the occasion, I'm giving away one copy of my new book, Missing Persons: Beyond Serial Killers and Unexplained Disappearances.
The response has been so positive. The first print run sold out within a matter of days, which I suppose suggests that at least some people read it. I appreciate everyone who bought a copy, mentioned it, or quietly tolerated me talking about it. And so I'd like to give back.
To enter, leave a comment on this post. That's it that's all. Then I'II select a winner at random in one week from today.
Please share with your networks to reach the police, SAR, mispers, practitioner, academic and other communities to which I owe a great deal for their support.
