People rightly want to see a politics grounded more in the material realities of working-class life - one that sees our collective liberation from oppression as bound up with issues of economic justice and the struggle against capitalism.

What the article points out is that within the left (broadly speaking), people are increasingly dissatisfied with the kind of performative, virtue-signalling politics of 'woke 1.0' - which the worst of what Keller refers to as 'identity politics' has definitely been part of.

An interesting piece by Lachlan Keller, published in Crikey - with some comments from VS candidate for Brunswick Naomi Farmer. We would add, though, that socialists haven't given up on being woke, which just means to be conscious and active around questions of social injustice.

Yesterday, I was barred from entering the West Bank by Israeli officials, as part of a @ProgIntl delegation. What's happening here in Palestine is unjust. We've just witnessed what Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch and many others have called a genocide unfold in Gaza. We came here to show the world, and to show solidarity with the Palestinian people. The Israeli government didn't allow that.

Everyone let alone parliamentarians should be amplifying this disgrace of the Labor Govt. Absolutely horrific. The UN once again expressing its concern, recently on students climate case and now on shackling of women during childbirth @Nicolette_Boele @SophieScamps @zalisteggall

“In rejecting the bill, the Government argued responsibility for the criminal justice system rests predominantly with state and territory governments, while the Coalition said that, although it "understands the intent" of the bill, it would not support it either.” This is bullshit. The Commonwealth has used various constitutional heads of power in the past to require Australia meets its international human rights obligations. The @AlboMP government and LNP coalition’s refusal to pass @SenatorThorpe’s "reforms aimed at protecting the dignity, bodily integrity and rights of women and children deprived of liberty" — is a stain on Australia’s international standing and its treatment of Australia’s indigenous women and children. This is what systemic racism looks like — laws, policies and practices — which may look neutral on the surface, but are disproportionately harmful in impact upon a minority, in this case to indigenous women and children. Australia is better than this. @AlboMP please work with @SenatorThorpe and @DavidShoebridge to get this done!

Members of the Democratic Socialists of America are thinking seriously about a national presidential campaign for Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in 2028 that would reach millions of working people and have the potential to transform American politics. jacobin.com/2026/10/dsa-ocas…

What if someone kill American or Israeli head of state in the same manner Iran's supreme leader killed. Would you still support that murderer?

Yes, such a crime can’t be left unpunished. The US and Israel targeting Iranian scientists and politicians with impunity and not a condemnation from any country and not even the UN. Justice will come from Iran 🇮🇷

Democrats are going to have to offer these jobs back to all of these officers, right after they arrest Hegseth for bombing that school.

BREAKING: Hegseth fires the Pentagon's chief planner, Army Lt. Gen. Brett Sylvia, from the Joint Chiefs of Staff, per The Atlantic. Defense officials said the main reason for the firing was that he clashed repeatedly with Elbridge Colby, the Pentagon's top civilian for policy, causing Hegseth to lose confidence in Sylvia. Colby is the official who said in August the US is reviewing the strategy for the specific and potential use of nuclear weapons. He is at least the 5th general pushed out this year, each holding a key position.

In May, the AFP received a referral from Amnesty, APAN and AMAN about Australians alleged to have committed crimes while serving in the IDF in Gaza. I asked them for an update in Estimates, and this is where they're at. We’ll keep following it.
