It’s been a busy week in parliament, but when students from St James College came to visit I made sure to give them the full tour.
Some would rather certain voices weren't heard in this building. This was a chance to remind these young Qlders that this is their Parliament too.
This is the real David Crisafulli.
Behind the slick slogans and salesman act, is someone who thinks intimidating a victim of crime is acceptable.
The Premier attacked Jonty Bush while she highlighted the stories of victims of crime.
Queenslanders deserve better.
Thanks to those who shared their experience recently, those genuinely curious and those helping to educate.
We think action should be taken, that’s why we’ve introduced a Bill to strengthen laws against non-fatal strangulation and protect victim-survivors.
In sexual violence awareness month, it’s important we continue to educate one another and push governments like the LNP here in Queensland to fund not cut prevention and awareness.
Victims who have been strangled by their partner are over 7 times more likely to be killed.
Enough is enough.
We want to strengthen laws to against offenders.
And we’re calling on the LNP government to back it in.
Labor will today introduce a Bill to protect victim-survivors from domestic, family and sexual violence.
Our Bill will:
* increase protections for victim-survivors
* better reflect the seriousness of conduct involving strangulation, by increasing aggravating penalties
* reduce court delays for victims
* Implement affirmative consent for strangulation offences, and more
Research shows that strangulation is the biggest red flag that violence will escalate, with victims who have been strangled by their partner are more than 7 times more likely to be killed.
DFV takes many forms, few are as dangerous, or as misunderstood, as strangulation.
It's why Labor's Bill strengthen protections for victim-survivors and introduces tougher laws for perpetrators who use strangulation in their violence.
The LNP are set to block our Bill that would cap fuel increases to five cents a day, and according to the RACQ reduce fuel prices by 23 cents per litre. Make it make sense. More evidence of spin over substance.

Amanda Stoker said abortion shouldn’t be available even for women who have been raped, she said sexuality was a choice. Now David Crisafulli has appointed her the LNP’s minister responsible for LGBQTIA+ policy, the prevention of domestic and family violence, and child safety.
Maybe instead of attacking others and slick spin, David Crisafulli, right-hand man Jarrod Bleijie and the LNP should focus on their four failing crises.
Affordability, housing, health, the economy, community safety, DFV, child safety, workers rights - all worse under David Crisafulli and the LNP, and that’s barely scratching the surface.
