Another interest rate rise from 3.76 to 4% although widely expected, is hardly going to help an already flat housing market.
Frustratingly, announcements like this only serve to reinforce the message that borrowing is becoming more expensive, potentially knocking buyer confidence even further.
The housing market needs confidence, stability and a reason for buyers to make their move — not another reminder of rising costs.
There are still plenty of people who want and need to move, but headlines like these do little to encourage them.
Confidence is key to getting the housing market moving again. 🏡

She thought greyhound racing was cruel.
Until she saw it with her own eyes.

The Government has today announced plans to introduce mandatory licensing for Estate Agents
The proposals form part of wider reforms aimed at improving transparency and protection for homeowners.
For estate agents, letting agents, managing agents and everyone working alongside them regulation is coming – is the property industry ready?

The Government has announced plans for a new “Your First Home” scheme, designed to make buying a new-build property more achievable.
Under the proposals, eligible first-time buyers could purchase with just a 2.5% deposit, supported by a 20% Government-backed equity loan, with an initial interest-free period.
The scheme will apply to qualifying new-build homes in England, with full details expected to be confirmed at the Budget next month.
At last something to hopefully kickstart the new build market

Wonder Andy Burnham's thoughts on the housing market, building more homes reportedly at the top of the agenda. Also curious to see whether we’ll finally see meaningful reform of the conveyancing process and, of course, stamp duty.
Talking of Stamp duty, I didn’t see coming, Angela Rayner being the new housing minister 😬
