Using AI to code an iOS app has given me extreme empathy for those that make AI music.
I know HTML and CSS, but I never finished learning C++, Objective-C, or Swift like I meant to in 1997, 2007, or 2017.
I *think* people with the experience refining one craft have an advantage when using AI to produce something built on another craft. It’s hard to put into words but it’s something like respect for the field you’re entering and a certain humility?
But it’s probably a lot like how 80% of us think we are above average drivers which is obviously statistically impossible. I think I’m using AI well. Am I? We’ll see.

I know it probably seems kind of insane that I'm working on a baseball app.
But once I had this idea I couldn't put it down.
Baseball without spoilers, without betting lines.
Modern technology giving you the feeling of the way it used to be.
Kind of like the way listening to @thewarondrugs is *like* listening to Don Henley in your mom's car on the highway but is kind of better. No offense to your mom.
Some of my favorite features:
When you open the app, you just see your favorite ballpark and city.
And if there’s a game on that’s what you see: there’s a game on.
And lots more ways to unspoil the experience of following your favorite baseball team.

Ok, learned something today when I overflowed the pipes with beta uploads to external testers with annoying fixes I missed.
BUT got this new first run experience live.
*Animations are not as smooth in simulator as they are on phone.
Today I’m launching the beta of Just The Game, an iPhone app I produced for following your favorite baseball team without spoilers, betting odds, or clickbait.
It is targeted for a Feb 2027 launch and I’m looking for beta testers.

The MLB app, once the crown jewel of the App Store, is a landmine of spoilers. Yes, you can turn off the score, but a headline or a photograph is sure to give the game away. Here’s an example from yesterday. The AB isn’t over and the box score shows the result.
Hey @WEEI our boys @WillFlemming @middlebrooks are doing a great job calling the @RedSox @Yankees game but the @MLB app is *still* not sending your audio stream through a compressor, been about a week. Maybe something changed but it keeps. changing. volume.

A photo of me and my dad at @Newportfolkfest in 1990...
I spent 2020 taking time off from a life spent in the music business, looking back with appreciation.
This led me to dust off my website and give my work a fresh home.
A letter about all that:

Replying to @gruber
@gruber @benthompson you guys should make T-shirts that say “there’s a bit where…” for Ben’s favorite phrase on dithering. It’s a very niche piece of merch but I will preorder 2.
