I've been in marketing and consumer digital for close to a decade, from personal finance to now health. Earlier this week in San Diego with Ahrefs Evolve, it felt like year one again. The rules feel like they're being rewritten again, this time in an arena where raw wit could outcompete and give us huge leverage. Never stop building 'Consensus' for your brand. What I'm taking home and worth a read if you're in Content, SEO, AEO, GEO, or agentic commerce: 1/ Discovery is changing, and this time it's real. I've watched voice AI and Crypto get billed as the next big shift in the last decade, and there was always a hill to climb. But seeing how other marketers with 25+ years of experience have approached it, it's clear that AI discovery is very different, and very real. 2/ Success is moving from clicks to influence. The question is no longer "did they visit our site?" It's "what does the wider web, and every AI reading it, say about us?" 3/ Owned land beats rented land. Build on ground you control, then distribute everywhere else. 4/ Taste is the moat (obviously). But one level deeper than that, in a 'content lens ', is to create non-commodity, human content for your audience - eg. I tried 4 types of X, I tested 5 brands, etc. 5/ Build intentional companies. Talking to the Ahrefs and Chili Piper teams about how they've structured their companies to keep growing left a real mark on me. 6/ Patience is an unfair advantage. When competitors are in a pressure cooker where money is expected to buy money, the team that can play the longer game gets to compound. Marketing is fun again. Ground zero, all over again. Digital work is all being rewritten in the last 6 months as we speak.

“Nothing besides the founder will have a higher moral authority to drastically pivot the company when they need to.” @tianglim explains why founder-led companies can respond to disruption faster than the tech incumbents of the past.

Clarity in thinking is such an underrated quality.
“If everyone has access to the same technology, know-how, and tokens, your ability to distinguish yourself and pull ahead of the competition really comes down to your ability to think clearly and execute. That’s more important than ever.” - @tianglim

“Turns out that if you focus on doing something and focus on doing that one thing for a really long time, you tend to get good at it.” For @tianglim, that craft is seed investing. “It gets me pretty close to the metal, and it scratches my itch as a former operator.” “I like to sometimes tell my wife that part of my job is to live slightly in the future.” “You get to see things that the rest of the population might not see or even appreciate, but they will in the next three, five, 10 years.”

the models have no moat (OpenAI, Anthropic, XAI) the IDEs have no moat (Cursor, Windsurf) the harnesses have no moat (Cognition, Factory, LangChain) the app builders have no moat (Replit, Lovable, Bolt) the wrappers have no moat (Harvey, Abridge, OpenEvidence) the inference providers have no moat (Together, Fireworks, Groq) the voice layer has no moat (Sierra, Decagon, ElevenLabs) the data labeling companies have no moat (Scale, Surge, Mercor) the AI infrastructure has no moat (Baseten, Modal, Railway) the neoclouds have no moat (CoreWeave, Lambda, Crusoe) the generative media companies have no moat (Runway, Higgsfield, Suno) apparently nobody in AI has a moat except the venture firm ☠️

The bigger problem - most of the workforce hasn’t reached agency yet, and AI is already reaching agentic.

Super relevant update on the Airtable acquisition! They spun out their AI business Hyperagent prior to the acquisition. So the company lives on, and likely some cash with it, probably can be recapitalized. seems like a fantastic outcome. Shed the old business and focus on AI

Remember when Claude tortured you with usage limits, mythos drama, huge bills, unreliable data retention policy and told you you are not “safe” or rich enough to use the most frontier intelligence and must be dumbed down to the lesser version coz they said so? That world is over. - fable is now provided forever with no mythos bullshit - codex gave so many usage resets and subsidy - for the first time ever, enterprises can choose to keep their own data safe, and say no to terms they don’t like - application developers can choose to not get wiped out by Claude(don’t give them data) and can make margins We have made more progress in the past few weeks than the last year. We got there not by the Dario god deciding that’s a better policy for humanity. We got there because of open weights. Open weights gave us options and competition drives progress.

This is 💯 right. You might as well put a high-fence around the United States. We wouldn’t be locking other people out — we would be caging ourselves in. & using AI with price/performance that isn’t globally competitive. No need to protect the fastest growing company of all time.
Banning or restricting Chinese models in the US would backfire and cede the global AI ecosystem to Beijing the new AI paradox: slowing America, speeding China

Claude Fable 5 will be available again globally tomorrow. After a series of productive conversations with the US government, we're redeploying the model with a new set of classifiers to target and block more cybersecurity tasks. In the near term, some routine tasks like coding and debugging will fall back to Opus 4.8. We’ll continue to refine these classifiers over the coming weeks to reduce false positives and better distinguish genuine misuse from legitimate requests. We’ve also begun drafting a consensus framework—with Amazon, Microsoft, Google, and other Glasswing partners—for assessing the severity of AI jailbreaks and how AI developers should respond to them. We invite other industry partners and model providers to join us in this effort. Finally, we’re scaling up our collaboration with the US government on model testing and safeguards. This will include pre-release access to models and safeguards for evaluation, information sharing on jailbreaks and misuse, and dedicated resources for joint research. Thank you to our users for your patience, and to our partners across the government, industry, and the research community who worked alongside us to make Fable 5 available again. Lee Kuan Yew was a genius
Lee Kuan Yew: “Air conditioning was a most important invention for us, perhaps one of the signal inventions of history. It changed the nature of civilization by making development possible in the tropics. Without air conditioning you can work only in the cool early-morning hours or at dusk. The first thing I did upon becoming prime minister was to install air conditioners in buildings where the civil service worked. This was key to public efficiency."
