I started a podcast with @trufelman, where we read canonical philosophical and sociological texts, and then discuss how those ideas illuminate our understanding of dress. The idea is that listeners can treat this like a book club and read along.

If you haven’t heard, @trufelman and I started a new podcast about fashion and philosophy. Each month, we read canonical text — Voltaire, Rousseau, Hegel — and talk about how the author's ideas help us understand why we dress the way we do.
This new episode is about Lord Chesterfield, who, while not a philosopher, wrote a series of famous letters to his son over the course of the 18th century. These letters often contained instructions on how to be a gentleman, but they were part of Chesterfield’s bigger project to propel his son into a high-flying political career.
Avery and I talk about Lord Chesterfield's life, his tortured relationship with his son, and how people use the idea of gentlemanliness to advance their social position and career.

This is a really good breakdown of exactly what goes into a hand-embellished silk dress and what it would cost if she sold it:
The rumors are true! @dieworkwear and I have started a monthly podcast together.
We read works of fashion philosophy and talk about what they mean today.
We start with a book from 1705 called Fable of the Bees

Excited to announce I started a podcast with my friend @trufelman, where here we read classic philosophical works and explore what they can teach us about why we buy, wear, and value the things we do. It’s a basically a podcast for people who love clothes, books, and big ideas.
We got deep in thought at the launch party for the all-new Philosophy Club podcast, hosted by @trufelman and @dieworkwear. In each episode, Avery and Derek will read classic works of philosophy, and discuss what they teach us about what we buy and wear. Subscription link in replies
I was shocked by the fashion trends I saw in China. Especially because I love them and I think we will all be wearing them.
But people are dressing in style that is hundreds of years old.
