Did you know that when droughts hit Karamoja,floods and landslides wash through Kasese and Bududa, persons with disabilities in these areas face not only physical challenges but also emotional stress and anxiety? What if #MentalHealthCare became part of every climate action plan?
On Saturday, students with disabilities at Kyambogo University participated in a dialogue supported by @GayoUganda and @TwezuuleF to explore how climate change affects them differently, its impact on their mental health, and the challenges they face in its aftermath.
We listened to students share what they understand about climate change, how it has affected their lives, and the solutions they believe can make a difference.
Their experiences reminded us that persons with disabilities must not only be included in climate discussions but also have their voices heard in designing solutions.
Climate action must be inclusive, accessible and responsive to everyone’s mental well-being.
When we listen to persons with disabilities, we create climate solutions that leave no one behind.
