I'm back in the world of The Homecoming as I work on the sequel, Hopes of the Weary. It's amazing how characters you created years ago never really leave you.
I published The Homecoming in 2021. It's the story of Nick Sampson, a 25-year-old trying to find his footing in a struggling western Pennsylvania mill town after his family has been shattered by the Vietnam War. It's a novel about loss, redemption, friendship and the hope that sometimes appears when life seems beyond repair.
If you've never read it, now's a pretty good time before the sequel arrives.

The fight over credit unions’ tax status is heating up.
The Defense Credit Union Council is challenging the Independent Community Bankers of America’s push to tax credit unions with more than $1 billion in assets. In a letter to ICBA, DCUC argues the proposal overlooks tax advantages available to some community banks and could leave credit unions with fewer resources for lending, reserves and member services.
The debate raises a central question: Should a credit union’s tax treatment change simply because it grows?

Election Day is over. Congress still has work to do.
Veterans seeking business capital, military families managing their finances and credit unions serving them can’t afford to wait until the next Congress takes office.
In his latest op-ed, Jason Stverak of the Defense Credit Union Council outlines three bipartisan reforms lawmakers should pass before adjourning: expand credit union lending to veterans, modernize loan maturity limits and strengthen emergency liquidity access.
With Veterans Day approaching, Stverak argues Congress has an opportunity to turn its support for those who served into meaningful action.

Not a mascot. A mindset. Meet Saasy.
Tyfone’s llama has more going on than a memorable look. Saasy represents the way we think about fintech: unconventional, confident, adaptable and built for the real world.
From challenging assumptions to building technology that performs in complex environments, Saasy reflects our belief that serious technology doesn't have to come with a corporate personality.
Playful, not reckless. Modern, not chaotic. Built different by design.

🚀 Tyfone is putting AI at the center of digital banking.
Tyfone has unveiled nFinia Reimagined, a new digital banking platform with Fathom AI woven throughout the experience — bringing natural-language conversations, personalized financial guidance and banking actions into one place.
iTHINK Financial will be the first Tyfone customer to launch Fathom, with the AI-powered experience expected to go live this fall.
Why now? According to the 2026 TD Bank AI Insights Report, 55% of Americans already use AI to help manage their finances. The challenge for community financial institutions is keeping those conversations — and the financial relationship — inside the institution.
As Tyfone CEO Siva Narendra puts it:
“AI isn’t another feature we’ve added to digital banking. It’s woven throughout the experience.”

ALT The image features a promotional booklet for Tyfone's AI solution called "Fathom." The booklet cover and an open page are shown, highlighting the phrase: "Bringing AI-native deep intelligence to Tyfone’s AI-first solution." The booklet is set against a purple background with the text "Free Pamphlet" at the top.

🤖 Is AI becoming the new front door to financial services?
A new five-part white paper from Tyfone CEO Siva Narendra argues that data aggregation, conversational AI and digital payments are weakening traditional advantages that credit unions and community banks have long relied on.
The biggest question may be who owns the member relationship when consumers increasingly turn to outside platforms to manage money and get financial advice.
Narendra’s answer isn’t to chase every new technology. It’s to focus on where community institutions still have an edge — trust, lending, local relationships and credit expertise — while using technology to strengthen those advantages.

The next generation of credit union members won’t wait. Will credit unions be ready?
Younger consumers are more likely to bank with traditional banks than credit unions, and a strong cooperative story may not be enough to change that. In his latest op-ed, Alan Bergstrom argues that credit unions must pair their values with convenient digital experiences, clear benefits and a member journey that makes joining—and staying—easy.
The challenge isn’t to imitate banks. It’s to make the credit union difference matter in everyday financial life.

Borrowers want answers fast. No waiting. No paperwork. No unnecessary back-and-forth. Manual processes and disconnected systems make lending harder, slowing decisions, adding work for staff, and creating friction at every step.
Tyfone makes lending faster and simpler with a flexible, white-label experience built around your policies. From application to funding, give borrowers a seamless experience across digital and in-branch channels.

Personalization in digital banking should go beyond changing colors, rearranging menus or adding a favorite team’s logo. Real personalization starts with knowing who the account holder is and understanding what they need.
Credit Union of Colorado (CU of CO)’s experience shows why trust comes first. By combining Cryptographic Device Authentication (CDA) with real-time fraud intelligence, the credit union strengthened security, reduced friction by 90% and cut manual fraud reviews by 98%.

Becky Jones, digital experience manager at $2.5 billion-asset ELGA Credit Union in Grand Blanc, Michigan, said Tyfone stands out among its competitors because it welcomes clients’ ideas and finds ways to implement them.
"What we like about Tyfone is that they're open to all of our ideas," she said. "And [they're] willing to let us bring in other third-parties that will integrate with their solution."

In the latest episode of the Digital Banking Podcast, host Josh DeTar welcomed Nick Wodogaza, credit union champion and advisor with CuS Together, and former CEO of Palmetto Citizens Federal Credit Union. Wodogaza spent 45 years in the credit union movement across just two employers, a state league and Palmetto Citizens, where he led for 28 years before retiring to work with credit unions full time.
Wodogaza laid out a framework he used in strategic planning sessions: important issues were rarely urgent, and urgent issues were rarely important, which meant credit unions often spent their time firefighting instead of addressing the member-focused, people, and operations issues that actually determined their future.
